THREE NODAWAY COUNTY FARMERS HELP BREAK WORLD RECORD

THREE NODAWAY COUNTY FARMERS HELP BREAK WORLD RECORD

Steve and Pat Howard and JC Ware, all of Maryville, were a part of a Guinness World Record for a Parade of Classic Tractors that was held during the Nebraska State Fair this year. Steve drove his 1954 Farmall Super MTA; Pat had a 1957 Farmall 450 diesel, which was one of only two present; and Ware drove his 1954 Farmall Super MTA. The parade of 964 tractors broke the record of 745 classic tractors in an event in Germany in 2008. Thirty-one states were represented. The event was coordinated by RFD TV/Rural TV.

Collectors flock to annual Toy and Buckle Show

In 1982, Erny Bugbee went to his first buckle show in Hayes, Kan.
The next year, the Alma native decided to design a belt buckle himself -- a 1983 Cornhusker football buckle cast in pewter.
Now, 28 years later, Bugbee has a collection of nearly 40,000 buckles he sells to collectors across the Midwest.
Bugbee brought his buckles to Lincoln for more than 2,000 collectors to see at the 26th annual Husker Toy & Buckle Show on Sunday at the Lancaster Event Center.

Tractor collection pulls in visitors as part of annual Country Holiday Home Tour

PATASKALA -- West Licking Historical Society's annual Country Holiday Home Tour always offers a nod to the past, thanks to the inclusion of historic buildings and homes.

This year's event is no different, save for the fact an antique tractor collection -- and not a venerable facade -- will stand front and center at one of the eight stops.

Local farmer Howard Emswiler, 72, owns more than 50 antique tractors. The list includes everything from old John Deeres to restored vintage models from Allis-Chalmers, Ford and Silver King.

Remember Leading Cause of Accidents and Farm Fatalities This Fall

Grain bin accidents are deadly, either form suffocation inside a bin, inside a semi-trailer, or from falls, or from being caught in an auger. And this is the time of year when more farmers and their families are working around grain bins on their farms, or dumping corn into trucks and hauling it in from the field.

Rollovers remain the most deadly of farm accidents...

Tuscaloosa County man gives antique tractors a second life

Tuscaloosa County man gives antique tractors a second life
By Robert DeWitt

Perhaps it all started because Henry Harless never got a chance to till the soil like his grandfather.
“I always liked tractors,” Harless said as he relaxed in the orderly shop area behind his home in northwest Tuscaloosa County. “I guess I always wanted to farm and never got the opportunity.”

Tractors are King of Fair

Tractors are king fair
By Rose Krebs, Staff writer
SPRINGFIELD — Joe Goodenough was pleased with the performance of his tractor during an exhibition pull at the Burlington County Farm Fair on Thursday.
The Northern Burlington Regional High School senior, who is president of his school’s Future Farmers of America chapter, was preparing to compete in the adult pull category Thursday night.
He was quite happy with his practice attempt of 269½ feet.
