Welcome to International Harvester Collectors of Indiana Chapter 7
Since 1993
Since 1993
March 2024
As I write this in early March, spring has been teasing us with a few beautiful, warm, sunny days only to shortlyrelapse back into winter’s cutting cold. However, in southern Indiana we have a few daffodils raising their stemsout of the ground and even a few in the bright sunny areas popping a few yellow flowers. As I get older, I have become less and less of a fan of winter and now understand why many head south for a few months to escape the cold. Joyce and I headed to Florida ourselves for a couple of weeks to hide from mother nature and visit with family and friends that spend their winters there. It takes us a little longer than most, as I like to drive and look at farms along the way, drive through machinery lots and stop and look at RED tractors for sale along the non-interstate highways.
We did wait to leave until after our first quarter Chapter 7 meeting at the MCL restaurant on the south side of Indy, on the 28th of January. We had a wonderful meal followed by a great meeting with a nice crowd of members, spouses and guests.
The Chapter presented retiring board member Norm Jackson with a special engraved plaque commemorating his many years of dedicated service to the board and Chapter. Norm was one of our founding members and his fondness for anything associated with IHC is unmatched.
At our last meeting we voted to help Chapter 33 with the IHCC Midwest Regional Spring Gathering in Auburn,Indiana, March 14th -16th . This event opens daily at 9 a.m., all in the climate-controlled Kruse Plaza. Over 100 RED tractors will be on display with the first 1947 #501 and the last 1979 Cub #253,682 on display. Chapter 7 hopes to have our display table there with our usual assortment of promotional items and our Tractor Mac books for sale. Come by and say hi!
We also discussed our IH Chapter 7 upcoming 2nd quarter meeting at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, June 29th at the State IH Show in Osgood. The show will take place on June 27, 28 and 29 at the S.E. Indiana F.A.R.M. Club show site at the Ripley County Fairgrounds, 424 E Cravens Street, Osgood. It is 2 blocks west of IN 350 and US 421. Please call Chuck Heck, 812-584-5153 with any questions. We had over 400 Red tractors including a few IH Gray ones at last year’s State Show, so we hope to have a big turnout this year as well. Many thanks to the S.E. Indiana F.A.R.M. Club for hosting us.
We are still looking for a show to host the 2025 State IH Show next year. The Franklin County Antique Machinery Show in Brookville will be hosting our 2026 State Show at the end of September.
Red Power is in Spencer, Iowa at the Clay County Fair Grounds June 20-23, 2024.
I hope our paths cross in 2024. I’d love to talk about old red tractors.
