Sitting in a meeting and another thought just came to mind.
I lubed the throttle lever hand control and now it's a little too smooth... jumps notches at certain intervals. I don't see an easy way to apply more pressure to the spring. Do I have to replace the spring?

Re: Throttle advance lever
The notches are probably worn, you can replace the whole assembly for $50. You can also add washers to give the spring more tension.

You can also reshape the worn notches carefully with a three corner file. Just square up and cut the notches a little deeper where their worn badly. May have to adjust a few and file down peeks a bit to make work. Have done this on several tractors and works well. Also the little divot on throttle arm can have a spot of weld added and reshape carefully. Hope this helps

Re: Throttle advance lever
Hi,
It is common for the lever to get worn at the notches, and the notches to get worn, then it doesn't stay at the speed you want.
Here is a listing for a new throttle lever at TM Tractor, you can see the place that sticks out and engages the notches in the lower pics.
http://www.tmtractor.com/new/gv/415fp.htm
Below is a pic of a new sector, showing what the notches look like. TM Tractor has them too, but the pics didn't show the notches up close.
The new ones I bought in the past didn't fit together too well, the notches needed filing so the lever would fit better. I don't know if they are still like that now or not.
You might be able to file the one you have, and have it work, like Stevetractor said above, if the notches are not real worn. The pics show what the parts look like.
Edit, here is a new throttle lever spring at TM Tractor, you could look and see if yours looks the same. No way to tell if yours is weak, without having a new one, probably.

Re: Throttle advance lever
Lever itself can get a slot worn, into it. Can be welded and reshaped with a file.

I saved George Willer's How To WITH the photos as a WORD document, but do not know how to post and keep the photos. If someone does, I could email the document so it can be posted.
