Deluxe seat

Postby john2189 » Sat Oct 21, 2017 8:28 am

Did the bottom cushion originally have springs instead of the foam they are made of now? What are the chances of finding one? The field I mow is just too rough with no springs.

John - I do not know about the springs but I have given up on the "deluxe" seat and switched to a well-greased pogo pan seat.

IH did a number of studies on the frequency of the human spine and were considered the best seat designers at the time. The engineers developing the X plane brought IH in to advise on the seat design.

I got mine from steinertractor. It's very comfortable. My only complaints is the silver canvas which shows dirt easily. It's for "show" not "Go". But what I did was have slipcovers made with drawstring for seat and backrest. Problem solved!

It does have springs.

IIRC the seat cushions from Steiner have the springs like the original did.

I converted my ‘49 to a deluxe seat several years back. It’s so much more comfortable than the pan seat—-I now understand why so many farmers converted their tractors back in the 60s!

John, Here's a link to an old thread where Kodiak mounted a deluxe seat on the pan seat post for a second level of spring. Unfortunately, the photos are gone but you should be able to follow what he did with the script. viewtopic.php?f=147&t=39230&p=324110&hilit=deluxe+seat#p324110
I have found some spring cushions on eBay, but they needed recovering.

Deluxe Seat frames are available online for $99.00 new. You will have to source the brackets elsewhere. Good Luck, Frank

Hi,
TM Tractor has the right deluxe seat bracket, but not the left.
They also have the tool box for use with the deluxe seat. :)

I have replaced springs in my deluxe seat. In April 2014, I bought enough to replace all the springs in a seat from DIY Upholstery Supply.

http://www.diyupholsterysupply.com/mm5/ ... 2d0670103&

I do not recall if they had stronger springs, but the ones I bought are a little softer than the originals.

That reminds me.....I have two sets of these cushions, one set on the Cub and one on one of my Super As. These tractors work and I must say the dirt situation has not been bad. The canvas looks pretty original but I think the originals had a more plastic-y texture to them and my guess is they shed dirt better.

Either way I think they're the best one will find for original appearance and quality.
