Cub planter and side dresser

Postby cjpenny89 » Wed Feb 24, 2021 12:25 pm

after 25 years I am starting to get out of my Farmall equipment. I am hating to see things go I just watched a IH-1000 loader go Saturday, Farmall 100 on Monday and a fast hitch brush hog on Tuesday. I am having some remorse to say the least after all the years of finding this stuff.

I have a Farmall cub with a working one row planter and side dresser with multiple seed hoppers and seed plates. If I decide to get out of the pumpkin planting business I think I might sell my planter set up. I am on the fence if I want to sell my cub with all the attachments.
The planter I have is Cub 171 or 172 planter with 3 seed hoppers one of which is the stacked hopper unit. everything works along with a side dresser unit and good fertilizer hopper.
I know how much time I spent on finding a planter and getting all the parts for the side dresser but what is a good asking price for this stuff if I decide to sell it?

Folks talk about working units will go for over $1000. I would think with what you have you would be at the top of the market if not the very top with multiple hoppers.

Takes a while to get everything, as a package as mentioned with multiple hoppers you could ask over $1000. Or just keep using it because you will miss having something as cool as a working planter on a Cub to plant your pumpkin seeds. Do you have pictures?

A Planter unit with Sidedresser will fetch 1000. Easy.
If it has Row Markers with it pbly could sell for 1300. Or More. It's the COOLEST attachment IH made for the Cub!

This is the one implement I wish I had for my Cub. I would like to expand my property use to include a small corn field and the Cub and the planter would be ideal for the space. But, I don't think I can buy in for 1000 which sounds like the going price. I guess I will need to keep searching.

Just start off with the fertilizer unit so you aren't spending $1000 at once. We plant by hand because we do 3 seeds per hill then cultivate and fertilize with the Cub.

I had someone wanting to trade me a 172 planter for some cultivator sweeps I was selling last year, then they just faded away, next thing I knew they listed it on craigslist for $200!!!

Naturally by the time I found the ad and contacted them it was sold!!! :(

On the topic of a side dresser, is the side dresser part of the planter and then you would just need to find the parts to add the planter? I saw a Cub for sale in my area that had the side dresser, cultivators, and supposedly ran. I almost wonder if it is worth buying a second tractor, hiding it from my wife, and then reselling after getting the implement I want.

I am going guess on this , but by looking at the unit it looks to me like I could very easily add a planter to this . Someone feel free to correct me on this .
