i figure the bolster has seen its day, I missed one tonight but was on the road doing a cub attachment trade, it sold for like $136 shipped, but I will find one, I think a nice V grind and some nickle or certanium for a few passes until its almost full then braze over the top to fill it out on the engine ear. a nice brace or some sort and away we go

check with JP Tractor, one of the sponsors at the bottom of the page. Will be a little higher, but theirs are magnafluxed and primed, no unpleasant surprises.

There are a number of sources for bolsters. Place an ad in the Vine, I'm sure there are members that can hook you up.

I have a bolster I took off of Walt that has a weld across the cooling jacket. Doesn’t have the radiator on it. It didn’t leak I just found one that hadn’t been welded and swapped it. If you can find a ride to your place from mine it’s yours. I can post pictures Monday. It’s at work on a shelf.

To be fair, my tractor did not break anyplace it wasn't already broken and welded. I have no idea what somebody did to it to break it the first time.

And he had no idea what he was doing when he repaired it.

it amazes me how much it held together knowing how little of the weld the guy put on it was holding anything at all.

Here it is. It was broke along the front on top. It didn’t leak when I took it off. I can probably get the broken bolts out with vice grips and the hot wrench.

Could this have frozen and broke, or is it stress?

From what I have been able to understand , in many cases the tractors were run in warmer weather with only water. The water system is a thermal siphon system, there is no water pump, it needs to be hot to circulate. Many (MANY! ) of these cubs froze and broke in the front. Out of three cubs I have one that hasn't been welded. I went to go look at a cub last saturday. the man had maybe 16 to 20 cubs. of all the ones for sale, maybe 9, I found one that had no apparent bolster welds or damage. (thats the one that followed me home)
