OK, good to know, I will surrender to the collective knowledge and change the bolts/screws. :surrender: :D

If you aren't aware, most everything IH printed is dated somewhere on it. Check on the back cover, lower left, in small print. Usually a part number followed by the date. Some of the older stuff (1940's and older) I have seen it on the front cover lower left.

Well I learned something to. I never knew IH switched to a closed mower hanger. I knew though that you had a slot which means a taper, which needs a drawbar bolt. The white pulley probably goes more with the age of your manual than the age of the mower. I'd guess that if your manual was in color the mower pictured with the solid (not slotted) mower hanger would be white to go with the yellow and white scheme.

I still think you oughta chrome plate that bolt! Would definitely be a conversation starter, then you could tell about the change IH did with the mounting bracket and the bolts. Of course then you would need to get a second Cub and sickle mower, both of a later vintage, with the solid hanger bracket to park beside it. :D

Hi,
TM Tractor has the tapered bolts, if you need them.

I've never seen anything but the tapered bolt version. My latest Owner's Manual is 1965 and it shows the tapered bolts. Unless I missed it, the 1980 Implement Parts Catalog only shows the tapered bolts. It wouldn't be the first time something was never updated in a parts catalog.

I had a few of them pass through, not common for sure, they all had a riveted id tag on them and were painted white with a black sickle bar

Jim, one of the images I posted above came out of a parts manual. 12 rev, no date, but cover tractor is 54-58 and it does say cap screws. Note that it states "-1948 and since-" which to me would mean a revision but I too have never seen anything but a slotted mount for a std Cub. And why leave 1947 out unless the revision took place mid production in 1948 but that would mean there'd be many more solid rather than slotted mounts and there aren't. To me the apparent conclusion is that the revision was for the screws, not the mount. It's interesting that the illustration also indicates a lock washer at the mount, something you wouldn't use with a tapered bolt but would use with cap screws.

I don't think the correct police will point to the bolt as much as they will the black grille and silver air breather pipe. It's your tractor, do it how you want it and don't worry about trying to please everyone else.

Yeah, those are a couple of things I haven't gotten to yet. Eventually. :)
