Re: Need help with farmall cub
You will have to take it apart and measure the cylinders etc. Rings will only cure it for a short period if it needs boring.
Every home is a school, what are you teaching?

You can slap in a set of rings and see. I did that to a cub I brought home in pieces and runs great. It does smoke just a little when under a heavy load but that's it. standard rings cost me 37 plus a couple gaskets and shipping. Boring a block is typically 200 for bore job and 188 for over bore kit and have to buy full gasket set which is 800 to 100 depending where you buy. So ring job you looking at 80 tops and complete overhaul pushing 500 range. Your choice lol

Re: Need help with farmall cub
I'd run a compression test first before considering a tear down.
Could be multiple reasons for smoking.

Re: Need help with farmall cub
Hi,
The guys have said on here many times that a smoking Cub engine is not necessarily worn out.
The piston rings get stuck from use, and sitting, over the years. I would try putting an oil additive in the engine oil, then run the Cub doing some work, make it work some for a few hours.
The guys use SeaFoam, and have said it works good.
Follow the directions on the package.
People have written on here that the smoking quit, or mostly quit, the longer you use the additive.
I have used Rislone, and had good results.
The additives are sold at auto parts stores.
It is easier to try the additive first, than do a rebuild. I would do the compression test first too.
Remember to open the throttle fully before doing a compression test.
