61 Lo boy fuel issue

Postby Masmith » Wed Jun 06, 2018 1:15 pm

I brought home a decent running 1961 Lo Boy and have used it for about two hours. It was running a little ruff but has now began idle surging very low to high. It runs fairly smooth at full throttle with half choke. I got out the manual and attempted to adjust the idle screw without success. This will be the first cub carburetor I've attempted to work on. All my past experience has been with the cadet carter carbs. Any suggestions or other things to look for would be a big help.

Sounds like a fuel flow issue. Just have to start checking at the carburetor, sediment bowl, fuel tank inlet.
I have an excuse. CRS.

I would think you could check the little brass hex head jet on the side of the carburetor bowl for rust and junk. Don’t use anything that would alter the hole sizes in the jet. A small copper wire and some air should open them up. (Telephone wire works good) Wear your safety googles when using air pressure.

Also pull the pipe plug out of the bottom of the carb bowl...it should flow a good stream....not trickle. That checks the max supply ability if the system. I have had the bowl fill with water enough to stop fuel from getting through...removing the plug clears the water...
