I'm running one on a 12 V battery, now. Changed the coil, and disconnected the VR. Neg ground. I plan on putting an alternator on it, when I get to it, but, for now, its working fine. Just charge the battery, every few days. I did a field repair, for my niece's father-in-lw. Cub died, plowing the garden. He called me, and when I checked it, he had a 12 V battery in it. I replaced the cooked coil, and it works fine. Charging system was already not working.
