Re: Rear tire tubes
tubes are now all imported and thinner than they use to be, I only use the tubes for radial tires as they are twice as thick, any local tire store should be able to sell them to you, here they are about $30 each for the radial tube for a 8.3 or 9.5 24 tire

Re: Rear tire tubes
Huh, took the wheel to firestone after breaking the bead to see if they would a. Order a tube and b. Put it on for me. Struck out on both. Bummer.
So, ordered one on Amazon and will have to put in the good fight taking half the tire off for the tube. Rim is in good shape.

Auto tire shops don't want to do anything they can't put on a machine and unseat/reseat a tire. Most won't deal with a tube. You could look for a shop that does truck tires or some service stations in rural areas still fix flats the old fashioned way.

You might try a different place. I found some of those big corporations have regulations that others don't.

Yeah, it's the liability thing. My local tire repair shop will tackle anything from a mini lawn mower tire to a log skidder. With or without a tube. Try that at the local wally world and see how far you get!!!!
EDIT TO ADD: I purchased tires from one of those places and they insisted on removing my heavy duty metal valve stems and replacing them as part of the sale, saying it was required by Federal regulations. When I challenged their rules and got to the bottom of the story, the Federal reg says that the remote pressure sensor valve stems must be tested and certified or replaced. Mine were not the remote sensor type. I don't buy anything from anyone who will try to sucker me with a half truth.

Re: Rear tire tubes
Put the rim and tire back on the tractor. Make sure both beads are broken.
It's easier to remove and install a rear tube with the rim and tire on the tractor.
There are several discussions on this site on how to dismount rear tractor tires.

Re: Rear tire tubes
My solution for breaking bead is front edge of tractor loader bucket, re-installation use plenty of soapy water and or plastic bag ! Baby powder on tube keeps it free inside casing. I inflate, deflate, reinflate to let tube settle in! Local garage w/do it, but for $25 I can handle this! Dusty B

Re: Rear tire tubes
It went pretty well with 4 irons and a son to help. Used a hefty bag between the rim and the tire edge and some dawn soap and off it came. The slipperyness of a soapy plastic bag helped.

Can you explain this plastic bag idea in more detail please? Pictures would be much appreciated too if possible. I have to replace a rear rim soon on my 47 and am dreading it.

Re: Rear tire tubes
too lat for pics, but get the bead on the rim halfway around the rim...until just before you have to start using irons. slip a hefty bag that has a little dish soap on it between the rim edge and the tire bead...it will be about 1/3 of the tire bead. then start using your irons. The last 6" of bead to get over the rim will be much easier. voila! use the below youtube as a reference....they do it a little different but the concept is the same. John
