I HAVE BEEN THROUGH MANY , MANY hurricanes , since 1965 . a catagory 3-4 hurricane , GET OUT . if you are 30 miles or so from the coast , 50 feet or less in elevation , get out . i will never , EVER ride one out again . between the wind/surge/ and tornadoes , it is not worth anything you own !!!!!! . val adams..........................................coppersmythe

Agreed. I have friends that live on the MS Gulf Coast and the horror stories they told me of people they knew who thought they would stay during Katrina and lost their lives...

We are near Jacksonville, NC. As of now we're staying. Traffic is heavy where people are leaving the beach; I believe you could name your price if you had a case of bottled water or a loaf of bread! I don't think there has been a single combine east of I-95 that has sat still since Friday. They closed school for the rest of the week, half day teacher workday tomorrow so at least I'll have time to finish getting things ready.

Bertha was a cakewalk. Fran was terrifying. Floyd was miserable. Matthew was a pain in the a##. There were several others mixed in there that tore up crops and generally made nuisances of themselves. This one sounds pretty scary, might be a 21st century hazel.

Prayers appreciated!

I hope it all goes away. I mean that the hurricanes go away but they don't. Prayer is the only power above them.

I have relatives around the Charleston area, one on Seabrook Island. My fingers are crossed.

My sister is in Jacksonville, and my brother near Kinston. I'm pretty sure my brother is staying put (he's on "high" ground) and my sister is staying with friends inland.

I was in Charleston for Hugo in '89 and vowed to never stick around for another one. Another reason I settled down in TN when I retired.

Nah, it's not leaking oil. It's just marking it's territory.

Biggest worry I believe will be flooding. Kinston really caught it in Floyd and again in matthew. Hope it won't be so bad this time.

It sounds like Jacksonville is a ghost town tonight.

Thoughts and prayers (most importantly) to those who remained behind.
If you own 1 tractor you have a interest
If you own 2 tractors you have a hobby
If you own 3 tractors you have an addiction

My aunt lives across from Barefoot Landing in North Myrtle Beach, she and 2 friends stayed. She lives about 2 blocks from the ocean. She's 71, not sure why she didn't get out. Please keep her and her friends in your prayers. I messaged her yesterday morning and never heard anything from her. Not sure if the power was out then or not, probably so.

My thoughts are with your aunt, Shane! Here in Chapel Hill, the storm is (so far!) wrapping right around our area, with only rain and medium winds. The coast, though, is another matter. The surge and heavy rains certainly are going to be a problem. I just pray everyone is OK.

Oh, and of course, all those IH tractors are OK too!! :tractor:

She just text me and said she just lost power. Glad she's okay to this point but it has just begun.

Well, I can tell you if I had a helicopter at my disposal right now (and a helicopter rating  ), I would have gone to fish her out. And as many others who remain behind as possible. Just said a prayer for her and her friends once I saw your post.

I heard from my sister and brother yesterday morning.

Sis was out of power and no running water. I'm not sure exactly where in the J-ville area she lives now but it's a little south of there down 17.

My brother said they're just getting a lot of wind and rain. During Floyd, his house was on a small island and stayed dry when the floodwaters got bad.

The sheriff of Osage County, Missouri picked up some useful surplus military equipment. Osage county is bordered on 3 sides by major rivers, the Missouri, Osage, and Gasconade. The rivers frequently flood.

The Sheriff picked up an Army bridge boat, used for assembling float bridges, a high water truck from the Air Force with 4000 miles. The same trucks can be seen in the news broadcasts. Also picked up two ATVs.
I have an excuse. CRS.
