I'm replacing gaskets and seal rings on the engine.
The sealing part on the fan drive pulley is worn down 0.3 - 0.4 mm and the surface is in bad shape due to corrosion. No wonder it was leaking.
I intend to order a "fan drive pulley wear sleeve kit", stock# 472 at TM Tractor Parts.
Just wondering how the wear sleeve has to be installed ?

Re: '49 Cub - Install wear sleeve on fan drive pulley
there is a tool to drive it on, you can put the pulley in the fridge and warm up the sleeve with a heat gun, lay a piece of wood on the sleeve and drive it on

If you do search for "sleeve installation", you'll find some pictures of how it's been done.

If it has a bd groove, which it appears to, or depressions from the corrosion, you might want to fill the low spots with JB Weld, and when it is dry use a strip of emery cloth to smooth it out.

Here are the directions for one brand of sleeves, most even come with the installation tool. Heat is not recommended. http://www.skf.com/us/products/seals/in ... index.html

Wonder if it would help to freeze the pulley? Installation of sleeve would have to be done quickly or it would shrink too.

Thanks Gary,
I chose the SKF, you are linking to.
Reason: An impressive good installation description, which made the operation simple and easy.
It's a bit expensive (approx. $ 60 excl. shipping and VAT), but worth its price - in my opinion.
Ingredients:
Pulley with worn sealing surface
2-component filler (not part of the wear sleeve package)
Speedi Sleeve
Installation tool (metal cup)
Hammer
Degrease the worn surface and the inside of the Speedi Sleeve with thinner.
Mix the filler and and apply all over the worn surface.
Put on the Speedi Sleeve, and the installation tool on top of it.
Throb the Speedi Sleeve in place with the hammer.
Carefully clean away ALL excess filler. Job done !
No intermediate pic's.
The filler starts hardening from mixing starts, and if you havn't finished within 5 minutes, you are lost.
Must admit, that I'm quite happy with the result.
Best regards

The seating rim is usually scored so you can remove it. I'm not sure if that's necessary or not in this application, but it's easy to do and I would guess that your instructions include that step.

Hi Bob,
It's usually not necessary to remove the seating rim, but if it is, you have to pre-cut it from the outside diameter into the radius in one location.
SKF instruction does describe it, and mention that removing it imply a risk of damaging the sleeve.
I did not remove it as it don't interfere.
