Fake Demo.

Postby BullDAWG » Sat Sep 22, 2018 6:32 pm

I own a 1950 but by the number it's NOT a demo, probably made in June or July. I don't plan on ever getting rid of it. But I luv the look of the demo's. I want to paint it white. Now before I get a ton of hate mail. Be honest n if you didn't roast or get upset when someone painted a yellow n white long stripe RED. Then I don't see a problem with mine white. I'll not try passing it off as a demo but just luv the look. Now let me know what y'all think. Any tips etc

I have a 1950 in the demo range but no trace of white. I shudder to think of how the white engine will look in 5 years. Classic IH red for me. Your tractor, your choice. Tell the "correct police" to move along.

I wouldn't choose most folks cloths. Why worry about their tractors color?
(I'd lose mine in the snow if they were white).

No problems here, just so long as it doesn't ever get sold and advertised as a "Demo" tractor. Nothing wrong with clones, but it is wrong to try to pass off clones as the real deal.
If you own 1 tractor you have a interest
If you own 2 tractors you have a hobby
If you own 3 tractors you have an addiction

My main reason is I actually use them and one I tried painting red turned pink after just a couple of years as my barn usually ends up filled with hay or other stuff so my tractors end up outside and I just hate seeing a nice new red tractor turn pink again after less than 5 yrs. Now the white on the engine will show everything but then at least I might catch a leak early n after disking or plowing I'll also see better where to wash off n grease before calling it a day.

What brand of paint did you use that faded that quickly?

As far as white, paint it whatever color you want, it is yours. I threatened a good IH friend of mine to paint one of our Cubs green and yellow, he said oh no I’ll buy red paint for you

Majic is not a very good paint.
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Almost 16 years ago I bought this 1950 CJ3A out of a junk yard->

my_jeep.jpg

and after nearly 4 years I turned it into this trophy winning WWII clone->

franklin twp jun 2015-1s.jpg

and after almost 12 years of enjoying participation in Memorial Day ceremonies, Veteran's Day parades, fund raiser car shows, and ice cream runs I sold it last summer to a WWII veteran who knew it wasn't real and didn't care, so, it's your tractor, make it what you want and enjoy it.

Red is the color that tends to fade worse than the others. If you want a durable red, you need to use a urethane red like I did. Very hard, and durable, it resists solvents and chemicals, and also resists fading better than enamels. It is also more expensive. I think you would be very happy with the results. Just my two cents.

If you want a durable, fade-resistant IH red, go get the caseIH Ironguard paint and put hardener in it. Old Ugly was painted in this manner in 2015 and if you wash it, it looks like it was painted yesterday.
