Engine Idler Gear Bushing Replacement?

Postby Cub_1948 » Thu Oct 18, 2018 11:50 am

Hello,

We are working on rebuilding the engine from a 1948 Cub. We're a little bit puzzled about what to do with the idler gear that is in between the crankshaft and governor. Is the bushing for this gear typically replaced during rebuilds? Most suppliers don't seem to carry this particular bushing.

Also, the removable shaft for the idler gear appears to be frozen in place and there is not enough room to get a gear puller on the shaft. Any tips for getting this shaft out?

Thanks

gentle prying under the gear and wiggling side to side it will come out after the bolt is removed, if the gear is not sloppy and tight it does not need to be replaced, no aftermarket parts suppliers offer the bushing, the replacement from IH needs to be machined to make it fit
