Source for Zenith carb to manifold gasket?

Postby Dale Finch » Wed Dec 05, 2018 5:48 pm

I have gasket material for most gaskets, but I'm looking for a source for the metal reinforced carb-to-manifold gasket for the Zenith, which has a slightly larger throat than the IH carb. Steiner's has it in their kits, but all I need is that gasket. Thanks.

Dale, I've never seen it, and I wonder how hard it would be to cut and punch. Messick's shows that they have them, but it doesn't specify material. I don't think McDonald Carb uses that material, although I've only ordered gaskets for the IH carb.

I guess I can just use the thick gasket material. It just seems strange that they are in the kits, but are not listed separately. I may call McDonald and Steiners tomorrow. It's probably not that critical...I just like that heavier gasket.

This one may have been from TM. They don't list one for the Zenith, only the IH, so I'm not sure where it came from. You can see where the throttle plate rubbed. I'm surprised it ran without any problems!

Of course, it is now beautifully beveled, so maybe I should just reuse it!!

I did call TM Tractor Parts (a forum sponsor from whom I prefer to order), and he admitted they did NOT carry the "foil insert" type gasket for the Zenith, although they DO have it for the IH carb. In fact, the gasket that comes with the Zenith carb that they sell, is only the heavy gasket material.

So I decide to go ahead and make the new gasket myself...after all, I have the gasket material and hole punches. One less thing to spend money on...though I am sure I will just spend it elsewhere!!

And a thanks to Bob McCarty for the info on sharpening those hole punches!! :hattip: I plan to buy a new triangular file today...I think the one I have is too course.
