Steiner Radiator

Steiner sent me a $50 off $250 offer. One item I need is a new radiator. I have heard that the Clancy radiator is highly recommended. My plan is to buy the Clancy from TM at some point. Steiner radiator states copper and brass construction. I’m sure it is foreign made and I guess I can call and find out where it is manufactured. I rarely order from Steiner but have had no problems with them. If I order a radiator at $209 I’m sure I can find another $41 to order to get to $250.

Has anybody installed the Steiner radiator for the Cub or installed one a few years ago and can comment on the quality and how it is holding up? (Assuming they have sold this same brand of radiator for a few years, which I have no idea.)

I don't know about a Steiner radiator, but I have some info that I have seen people post on here about Cub radiators that they bought from online.
They have posted that the radiator filler neck was too short, and when they put the hood on, the cap hit on the hood as they turned the cap. That could also be from the whole radiator being too short, not sure which it was.
Someone posted that he could not get the side panels on, that bolt on with the 3 bolts at the base, the radiator was the wrong shape, or different than an original evidently.

If you buy a new radiator, I would measure the height of it carefully before putting it on.

I have installed one on my restoration a few months ago. WORKS GREAT! Fitment is EXACT. Would highly recommend. Don't know about long term, but right now, it is working just fine. Also, it sits at the right height allowing the cowling to sit where it should and attach to the doglegs.

Thanks for the replies. I am well aware that there is a lot of ill fitting junk out there. I have one radiator that came on a Cub I bought and the radiator cap scrapes the hood and gouges it as you tighten it. It’s nice to hear from someone who bought one. My other option is to fix my old radiator but from what I’ve read it seems like the cost is not worth it if you can get a good quality new radiator.

I do know that Steiner is good about replacements or returns if you aren’t satisfied. I prefer TM but since I have to get some other stuff anyway, with $50 off, I can get the Steiner radiator for about $60 less than the Clancy.

Get a good original. Some salvage original parts are better than new stuff.

Thanks Tim, based on that information I can get the Clancy radiator from US Farm Parts for $165.

As for Steiner, I have ordered a few things from them, and I haven't had a problem with their products nor their shipping. Of the parts I needed, Steiner's was a bit less than TM with comparable shipping on most of them. I also have gotten $13 off shipping discounts from them in the past, and used it when they offered it to me. I have dealt with TM also, and can't complain about them either, their parts nor their business/shipping practices.

If you do order the radiator from Steiner and can not make up the extra to get the discount, ask about the $13 off on the shipping discount. They might just give it to you.

I have bought a few things from Steiner and others with good results.
But I don't mind if I pay a little more (within reason) to deal with Ron at TM whenever I can since he is a sponsor of this invaluable site. Sometimes he is cheaper or is the only place I have found what I want.

I give TM 90% of my business and knowing that I will always get a part that fits and is of good quality I will happily pay more in most cases. But, I confirmed what Tim said directly from A&I that the radiator they sell for the Cub is made by Clancy and the price is about $41 less than TM if you factor out the gasket that is included when you order from TM.

TM to me has been flawless under the old and new owners. Always exactly what I order, shipped promptly, questions answered promptly.

I’m gonna order from A&I and use my savings to order what amounts to a free muffler from TM.

I did order the Clancy radiator from A&I. If you search for A&I on the Internet, it links to the website allpartstore.com where you can order the radiator. I wanted to mention one thing about ordering that may save you a few dollars. Before you can put the radiator in your shopping cart, you have to put in your zip code and choose a “local dealer”. The part ships directly to you but, perhaps for sales tax purposes, you have choose a local dealer to proceed. Thinking I was going to have to pick up the part from the dealer I chose the closest one and the price was $177. But, another dealer’s price about the same distance away was $165. Anyway, keep that in mind if you ever decide to order this radiator. With shipping and sales tax it cost me $193.

I noticed that also. Windy Hill Restoration has an A&I store, they run TM tractor. A little cheaper.

I restored a cub last summer and needed a new radiator so I ordered one off E Bay for around $100 dollars with gasket and so I put it on. Proceeded to paint the tractor and had every thing looking good and when I went to put the hood on it would not sit down low enough for the dog legs to bolt up. The hood hit the top of the radiator and all it liked was about 5/16 of an inch so had to call and have it sent back and pay $18.00 shipping for refund and then was scared to order another one so went to my local tractor dealer and payed $225.00 for a Clancy.
