hydraulic pump rebuild

Postby Dusty B » Fri Dec 14, 2018 9:00 am

Carefully disassembled my hydraulic pump, no 'PIN" between the brass collars, Stiener tube video refers to a rubber tip between collars! Question - how critical is it? Where do you get a replacement? What purpose does it serve? Is it included in the TM rebuild kit? (I ordered 2!) Nut was laying just inside the block - no lock washer - had not made it to the pan yet! W/use self locking tap when it goes back together! Pump actually worked fine (after adding fluid) as it was except for leaking fluid like crazy at the pump. Thanks Dusty B

Try using a magnetic pickup into the oil pan...it's in there somewhere and costs a pretty penny to replace!
That, having been said, I did use a star washer when reassembling one of mine. The old one was retrieved from the pan, but had already been bent up twice, so put it in the spare parts drawer.

There is a pin seal included with the kit however it is not used in all versions of the pump. It looks like there were 6 versions of the pump used through the years.

What manual is that chart out of? I've never seen it before.

It's in the installation instructions included with kit.

Thanks! I guess I need to look at a couple of pumps and see if I can find the model number and suffix.

The "pin between the brass collars is a little rubber plug, and yes, it is included in TM's rebuild kit. Not all pumps use it however. If yours needs it there will be a little half hole in each collar for it to fit into. If it is not there the pressure will be lower and the hydraulics will not lift as much as normal. If the little cutout is not in the 2 brass collars/bushings, it is not needed.

This might be the video you are referring to? At around the 20 min point Rachel calls it a "rubber stopper" and has a little trouble installing it.

Last question - W/a self locking tap (neoprene insert) work on the shaft?? rather than the locking washer?? or a star washer as someone suggested ?

Hi,
If you have the cash this near Christmas, it is better to use the Case IH lock washer. You probably don't want the nut falling off, and have to take it apart to fix it again.

Below is the TM Tractor listing for the lock washer.

http://www.tmtractor.com/new/hy/562fp.htm

TM Tractor sells what looks like a regular nut to use with it. Tighten the nut securely, and then bend the washer over one flat of the nut. Be sure the gear teeth are facing ahead.

Below is a pic from TM Tractor. :)

I prefer the lock nuts that have the end crimped a little, That way I do not have to worry about the hot motor oils softening the locking insert.
