modified finals

Dropped the mule drive off LA # 2 (current project) appears that the PO drilled out the bolt holes, inserted a plug tapped for 1/2" bolt w/tapered collar??!!! (on 2 holes) -other hole has broken edge - left had side is still intact w/original bolts! Considering it to be a DSCF project (want to do brakes also).. Anyway to determine if it has been drilled too large to helicoled? or best to just use as is??? Consider that w/pipe over longer 1/2" bolt to bring diameter back to size for drawbar brackets. The current inserts seem to fit snugly in the casting. Any suggestions welcomed!! Plan to reinstall the belly mower that was on the tractor.

It looks like the PO didn't have tapered shoulder bolts, so he concaved some washers to mimic what should be there. Can you post pics of what it looks like with the two bolts removed?

Are you sure that's not a spacer of some sort stuck to the bolt? I don't see how a smooth sided plug stuck in a hole would ever grip to tighten.

Part of the problem - they didn't!!! One came out w/the bolt, other one is still in the casting! Weird!

Top pic gives a pretty good idea - top bolt pulled the plug out w/it, bottom bolt unscrewed and the plug just remained in the hole! (flush w/the casting). They do make the tapered washers (1/2") i have some - pricey! Hopefully that would match the tapered brackets on a drawbar?!?
