Small rubber cylinder in hydraulic pump

Postby ShawnAgne » Thu Jan 10, 2019 9:15 pm

Speaking hypothetically here because obviously this wouldn't have happened to me........
If a person was tearing apart their hydraulic pump because of a leak as a result of a bad o ring and damaged shaft and in doing so the small rubber cylinder that holds the two brass pieces fell out somewhere on the floor

a.) is it a common part that one could find in a hardware store, if so what is it called?
b.) seeing as how everything is going to be rather tight in there to begin with and not rotate, is it really necessary?

Again just speaking hypothetically...............

Have a rebuild kit coming but not sure if it will be here tomorrow, and like to get the pump back together as we're supposed to have snow friday/saturday

Hi,
The little part is a bearing seal pin, in the service manual. Dale Finch posted the manual at your other post.
Here it is below, the pic of inside the pump is mostly down the page. I guess number 8 in the pic is what you mean.

I think they have posted on here that the pump does not work without it.
I would look for yours, the Cub parts manual does not show individual parts for a pump.

Bob in CT measured one a few years back. .185 in width and .135 long. A 3/16" o-ring is .1875 in width. I think you could take a large diameter 0-ring (3" +/-), cut one and the curvature wouldn't matter. There should be one in the rebuild kit though.

Edit: Just looked one up on McMaster-Carr, the 3/16" is actually .21, so that won't work.

The rebuild kit arrived at the house so I'll be good. However I might look around for somthing that works for the next person.

Find the one that hypothetically fell on the floor and you'll have a spare. :D

Of course, it would only be a hypothetical spare.

do not remember, used a drill bit to size the hole and used one slightly thicker and it squeezed it in

Well I hypothetically looked for the seal on the floor. I didn't find the seal, but I did find a tape measure that has been missing for awhile, so it wasn't all a failure.......
