New shoes for the Cubs

Postby CapeCodCubs » Wed Jan 23, 2019 9:33 pm

Followed a post about rear tires. What about front tires?
Just got some fronts. 2 sets of Firestone tri rib and a set of Carlisles 5 rib. The Cubs needed new shoes, what are you putting on the front rims and why?

The tri rib are for the plowing tractors and the 5 rib will go on a lowboy with turf tires on the rear.

I had the turf tread trailer tires on the front that rolled and were kind to the lawn but slid when trying to steer while plowing snow. A set of tri-rib Deestones with tubes for about $70 track really well when plowing now.

The tri ribs work well in the snow? I have never plowed snow and this year will be a first and wondered about the best front tires.

I had my 300 out and it has tri ribs, they worked very nicely in the snow when I was pulling some cars out. One of which was my wife who was not a fan of me buying the 300. Karma ;)

I went with Tucker Tire for my front tires. I found them while shopping for new fronts online and was pleasantly surprised to find that they in the next county over in Dyersburg TN. I carried the old ones over to them and got the new tires mounted on my rims for just under $100. I'm still running the 9.5 x 24 rears that my wife's Granddaddy put on it years ago. They got a few old age cracks but are holding up quite well. If I have to change the rears, I'm going with the 9.5s again. I kind of like the look of them on the Cub.

Nah, it's not leaking oil. It's just marking it's territory.

That was a good deal with mounting included. Must be nice having Tucker Tire close by. I got my rear tires from PetesTire Barn on eBay and they transferred them to their Providence location for free. No mounting. I borrowed some tire spoons and put them on myself with a friend. That was a chore. The front tires I take to local tire place

Does anyone have a photo of the 5 rib Carlisle front tires on the wheel of their cub? The website photo does not look realistic...

I don't know what website you're looking at but the pic of it on M.E.Miller looks pretty realistic, in my mind.

I can personally testify that the Ag tri ribs work well in snow, and of course soil. I use my Cub on our wooded acreage, for trail maintenance and bull work, like moving logs. For me, Ag tires are the way to go.

Appreciate the input. I do have some old 5 ribs already on the cub that work good even for plowing, really just wanted to verify the look of the width on the Carlisles as these are going on a Power King Tractor.
