Shank questions

Postby BullDAWG » Fri Mar 15, 2019 4:37 pm

I'm wanting to use my #16 spring trip cult. shank to mount a middle buster (furrower) on it but I'm not sure if they can fit.
Will a furrower bolt onto the #16 shank?
I also want a subsoiler that can bolt onto the 144 cultavator rear toolbars. I'm thinking of a stiff shank that a point could bolt onto. Does anyone know where I could get things like this.?.?.
I have a 6' piece of solid 1 3/8" square bar (same size as 144 toolbar) and was planing on mounting it to the 144 and can use IH clamps and shanks but I need a supplier of different shanks and possibly wheels that could be mounted to the toolbar that are adjustable to limit tool depth.

thanks :)

Let me find my 144 manual to look at a #16. Most furoowers will attach.

Kind of confused, where do you want to put the steel bar.

Kind of confused about the subsoiler idea. I would avoid that idea. Good way to break parts. Just use the cultivators as they were meant to be used.

About any plow will bolt to your cultivator shanks. I use Orthman Lister plows for furrow applications. I can send you a picture I can't figure out how to post on here. For the subsoiler I wouldn't us the cultivator bars. Will break or bend stuff. Biggest risk would be to the finals. If you want a subsoiler bolt it to the drawbar with the drawbar bolted solid to the mounting brackets. Can also send a picture of mine. Cubs don't have much power when it comes to hard pan shattering. Mine is not designed very well due to my lack of steel selection on hand at the time. A gauge wheel would be easy to design for something of the sort as that.

I use the plow off that unit and bolts right to the cultivator shanks. Need a heavy washer or multiple washers in the back though.

When I make my beds I will put this plow in line with my front tires, then my disc hillers just behind them and to the inside of each plow. I will make 3 passes down each bed with the last 1 or 2 in 2nd gear. Will make a bed half knee high.

here is a pic of what I'm looking for but instead of using the Cub - 6 toolbar (2" diamond toolbar) I'm planning on adding a 6' long 1 3/8 x 1 3/8 square bar. I'm clamping it to the 144 rear cultivator bars with a spacer so IH type clamps can be used on it (for a # 16 spring trip shank and a 15" cut 20" wing furrowing plow) along with 2 disc type hillers to make raised beds. But I'd also like to add on the subsoiler to the bar (in the pic they call them "Stiff Shanks) but looks like the cub is pulling 3 of em fine... I just can't find where to get something like that that I could even modify to be bolted onto the toolbar. That is what I'm looking for as everywhere I look wants to sell me the whole thing, NOT just the ripper/subsoiler shank and point to be modified or just bolt on if its already the right size...

here are some other things I've seen and want to put on the toolbar
