I am putting my Farmall Cub back together. After spending a lot of time cleaning the Air Cleaner - especially the Crankcase Vent Tube (CVT) - I am wondering about the purpose of the CVT? I literally spent hours with pipe cleaners and denatured alcohol cleaning the CVT. I believe it was completely stopped up. Well now the tube is clean as I could get it. I blew compressed air through it and it is clear. The tube is small, however. Will this make any difference in the running of my cub?
Also, someone recommended using Automatic Transmission Fluid instead of oil in the Air Cleaner bowl as they said it would clean my filter screen better. What do you think?

The oil bowl is to trap dirt, and oil is best at that. To clean the internal screen of the air cleaner take the cleaner off and soak it in a parts washer, kerosene, etc. for a while then wash it out. the crankcase breather pipe will not affect the running, but it will remove the filters from the crankcase and reduce the vapors that come from the filler pipe. be sure to clean the fitting that is screwed into the block for the breather pipe.

Cleaning the crankcase vent tube is the second least rewarding job on the cub. First is removing the hinge pin for the pedals.
When you only have 9 horsepower you need to know the names of all of the ponies!
