Pull behind Yard Vacuum

Postby Luke470 » Tue May 07, 2019 10:04 am

Has any used a pull behind Yard Vacuum with a cub. I know Agri-Fab makes one and the usually make decent equipment. My main worry would be the intake of the vacuum not matching up with the discharge of the mower.

Thanks!

I haven't used one behind a Cub BUT I do have one and tried using it behind a zero turn with a 54" deck and spent more time unclogging the hose than actually getting leaves up. I then hooked it behind a Cub Cadet with a 32" deck and haven't had to unclog the hose yet. The intake of the vacuum can't take a whole lot. If you used it behind a Cub you would have to take smaller bites and hope for the best.

The drier the leaves/grass the better. Add a little moisture to it and it clogs even more.

That's why God invented sheet metal and pop rivets. Should be able to fabricate a hood pretty easily.

I used one for years and it worked great. Mine was homemade. The neighbor had a Kohler 4hp with attached blower housing from an old Wheelhorse vac system. I mounted it onto a yard trailer tongue and then enclosed the top with an exit screen. I ran a 6" hose up to the Woods 59. I ended up going to a lawnmower junkyard and finding a couple metal shoots from another brand vac system. I adapted one to fit the woods and the neighbor adapted the other to fit his small John Deere. We both used that thing for years. I did end up adding curved metal around the blades of the 59 to help direct the grass/leaves out the right side. Eventually I added "Gator" blades to the woods and just mulched everything.

I have owned 4 of the Agri-Fab pull behind yard vacs. I usually buy them used non-running, replace carburetor and sell in the fall after picking up leaves in my own yard. I have bought one new from big box store on clearance as well. They work great, if you are buying used, make sure you get all the attachments, as the small parts are expensive that mate up with the mowing deck. I haven't use with a cub, just standard ride on cub cadets with 42-54" decks.

I'm with Rick, I built one but I use it with a 149 Cadet with a 48" deck. It works great, as mentioned, as long as the leaves aren't too wet.

I even built on an electric lift for my trailer.
