C2 Mower Deck Retainer Cap

Postby cavingreer » Sat Jul 27, 2019 6:05 pm

Finally getting some more work done on my Cub. Got the tabs welded on the newer hood and mounted. I need to find a long-ear dash now.
My deck had been vibrating, tearing the top and the rail bolts were all coming loose. I got a reinforcement plate welded onto it, put new hardware on and repainted it. Few years back when I got the overrun clutch fixed, I cobbled together an oddball collection of nuts and washers on the way-too-long bolt holding the clutch retainer cap on. It ran fine and never came off. Today I picked up some new thick fender washers and a shorter bolt and got it cleaned up. Well first run everything was fine except after the clutch kicked in a couple times it backed off the bolt and flipped the retainer cap off.
Any suggestions on why ... other than maybe I just had it touching the pulley too tight or need a lock washer or something?
Any chance someone has a C2 retainer cap in decent shape? Mine has been boogered pretty bad before I got it so it's really the problem.
I'm tempted to just put a big fender washer over it and ditch the cap. i don't think it really helps with grease or anything anyway.

I may have a cap, I’ll look and see tomorrow.

Huge Thanks to Shane N for the cap! Definitely completely different from the thing I had. I'm not even sure it was actually the original cap because it was just really thin steel and no pin in it. I'm mowing again now!
