Cub 501 Has a New Home!

Postby Super A » Thu Sep 12, 2019 6:11 am

Saw on FB last night, that the very first production Cub has a new home. It's not going very far from where it has lived all its life, and it sounds like it will be restored to look like it did originally.

It has been previously repainted, has wrong decals, and maybe a few other things I don't remember. In this case, I don't think there is much risk of loss due to restoration. Hopefully they can move it a little closer to the original form, and not do any modifications. I think there is a story to go with the flattened portion of the 3 ribs, should be kept that way.

Here's a photo of it when it was new, the hood ribs are there. I wonder what the story with that is, any idea Jim?

Someone also added hydraulics to it, I don't blame them. I did it to our 1947 when we had it too, that hand lift is for young healthy people.

I believe the FB post mentioned something about plaques having been on those flattened areas at one time.

Plus the one in the pictures black & white one shows no hydraulics the color ones do.

Hydraulics were added later. The flat spot on the hood was for a brass plate from IH stating something to the effect it was the first Farmall Cub, etc. If I recall it was presented to an IH engineer that had worked on the design.

I'm glad to see Rob Bush is the new owner. He is a long time member on this forum. I'm sure Rob will put it back to the way it was when it left the factory.
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Rob doesn't own it, but a close friend of his does.

Bummer on the repaint but even still is 501 as found better than 501 restored , my vote as found but adding the proper decals :tractor:
