1000 loader seal replacement

Postby Winfield Dave » Wed Oct 23, 2019 11:32 am

I am trying to replace the seals in my small cylinder on my loader. But I can't get the endcap off to access the inside.
It doesn't seem to screw off like a normal hydraulic cylinder.
There is this slot close to the joint and I'm wondering if that has something to do with the cap not screwing off.
The parts book doesn't show the slot or any kind of key in the cylinder at that point.
Any suggestions?

There were two versions of that cylinder. The parts book shows a "retaining key" for one and a "retaining wire" for the other. They look about the same in the drawings. I've never had one of them apart. It looks like getting it apart has to involve either rotating the cap or pushing in on the part in the slot, maybe both in the proper combination.

that style he has a snap ring that you squeeze together to get the cap off, many times the ends are broken off the snap ring so it can be fun to get out at times

This takes a straight "snap ring" that has a hook on the end.
(My hook was straightened out during disassembly)

You align the hole in the ring groove with the slot in the cylinder body.

Insert snap ring hook thru slot and into the hole.
Then while turning the body feed the snap ring until you complete one rotation.

The reason I had trouble was my ring was frozen in the groove
and it wouldn't rotate to where I could get to the end to start the removal.
