Cub carb rebuild kit

Postby 28plymouthman » Sat Jan 04, 2020 4:04 pm

I just received my carb rebuild kit. The needle and seat and air fuel screw has different threads. The new parts do not screw in. Is there different years of IH carbs . My cub is 1949. The needle and seat I removed has a hex head to remove it and the new one is slotted on top to use a screwdriver to insert it, but the threads are different. How do I order a new kit with the correct parts. My carb has no numbers on it. Just IH. Thanks.

Where did you get the kit? You can order a good kit from http://www.mcdonaldcarb.com . I'd call rather than order online.

On the Cub, IH used the 3/4" updraft until it switched to the Zenith towards the end. There were changes in the main jet and discharge tube sizes, but they were all threaded the same and interchangeable. You have the oem needle and seat. Unless it is shot, I'd clean and reuse it. The aftermarket needle has a viton tip which I find to stick or leak a lot of the time. Where did you get your kit?

Hi,
Below is a listing at TM Tractor for a new needle and seat for the IH carburetor. You can look at the pic and see how it should look.

http://www.tmtractor.com/new/fl/5183fp.htm

The listing below is for the needle and seat for the Zenith carb. It has a pic of the carb also.
The Zenith carb was used by IH on Cubs, beginning in mid 1975, but people have put them on older Cubs also.

The carb is shown in the 1949 Cub operator's manual. :)
Below is a pic of an IH style carb.
