Rear Axle Housing
Hello everyone, I'm new to the site, thank you in advance for your help. here goes, I was recently given a 49' cub from my neighbor and it was in pieces, i am in the process of putting it back together but have ran into a roadblock (I think). Is there gaskets where the rear axle housings mate with the differential, cant seem to find any online or in the parts manual. If so where can I purchase them. Thanks so much for your help.

Re: Rear Axle Housing
The oil contained in the transmission by a seal on the shaft and an o-ring on the bearing retainer, and a seal at the final drive at the other end.

Re: Rear Axle Housing
no gasket. the metal diff to metal tranny connection is part of the ground circuit to make the starter and other electricals work.

Re: Rear Axle Housing
Hi,
It's always good to replace the oil seals on the final drive upper shafts whenever you remove a final drive, especially if the seals have been leaking any. The oil probably will get on the brake if the seals leak.
The area where the brake is should be dry.
Below are listings at TM Tractor for new seals. The seals in the transmission are different sizes than the seals in the final drives.

The seal in the final drive is behind, or outboard from the brake drum. You have to remove the brake drum, brake drum key in the shaft, and the round cover held on with the 4 bolts, then the upper shaft slides out the hole in the housing. Then you can get to the oil seal through the hole with a punch, to hammer the seal out.
Tighten the brake drum setscrew and lock nut securely when putting it together.
There is a pic of the seal in the housing at the bottom of the listing below.
