Manifold

Postby xrcr » Tue Apr 14, 2020 8:15 am

Where exhaust pipe goes into manifold is really boogerd up. No threads left pipe was stuck in there when I bought it. This might explain how the water got into #4 and froze motor. Anyway....any ideas on fixing this? Buy manifold(Obviously) Braze pipe to manifold? Braze insert and use smaller pipe? Other? I'm really cheap, especially now days, so I'm trying to not spend alot. Any help is appreciated.

Put an ad in The Vine for a good used manifold.

Can you borrow the appropriately sized pipe tap from somebody and tap the threads a little deeper? They are tapered so it wouldn't take much to cut enough threads to hold a pipe stub.

The rusted off stub may still be in the manifold and can be removed. There is a very good tutorial on this in the how to section. In any case when you prep the surface for removal you will be able to see if the pipe stub is in there and remove it. I had a similar case and although doubting it, the process worked well and my manifold was saved. It sounds like you have noting to lose by at least starting down this path.
