Re: Trailer size for 1948 Farmall Cub
We rented this one back in 2015. The way this trailer is made, you may have trouble if your Cub tires are set the wrong width.
We were close and only had a minor pucker factor.

A local equipment rental yard will have a large choice of trailers.
This one has a lift bed for about 75.00 a day.

Re: Trailer size for 1948 Farmall Cub
It's not ideal, but I hauled my first cub on a 5x8 trailer. We pushed it on backwards to keep the weight on the tongue. This was a bare tractor without any weights or implements. I used two 3K straps around the rear axle and one over the center pulling forward. It fit and I was under the weight rating of the trailer, but something bigger would be a lot better option.

I run the 48 with a Woods 42 up onto the utility trailer (with the front of the Woods lifted with the hydraulics) no problem.
It might bump in one spot on a roller (skids removed and casters in their place) but barely. I wouldn't want to scrape up my trailer. A rental maybe , but not my own.

Thanks again for the replies and suggestions.
What is the approximate weight of the tractor with belly mower attached and front blade attachment also on the trailer?
Appreciate the help,
D

Aren't the Cubs about 1700. Then add whatever if you have weights. Just guessing on mower but several hundred pounds and the blade similar. I'd say no more than 2500 for the tractor and those implements.

42" mower is listed as 300lbs, and 60" at 350lbs. Call it another 100lbs for a snowplow.
Rear weights are 150 each, and fronts are 25 each.
Water filled tires are 13lbs/gallon. I don't remember how many gallons those rears hold

My other tractor is a Yanmar. Weighs about the same but has 2.5 times the HP. Same rim diameter but tires I think are 9.5 wide if I remember. I filled with windshield washer fluid and water, but anyway if I remember right I think I figured about 75 pounds or so per filled tire.

Thank you Indy61! My local Sunbelt had a 6x8 tilt bed single-axle that worked like a dream. Under $200 for a weeks’ rental meant no early morning pickup for my 800 mile trip. The trailer towed like a dream and I was able to maintain the speed limit across four states.
.
So now I’m a newbie Cub owner and I’m certain I will have a few questions. This site has already been invaluable. Thanks all.

Last I looked water was ~8lbs/gallon, is that with calcium chloride added?

I suppose I should have clarified that...growing up we always called them water filled tires...and we always had calcium in them. Calcium is what makes them heavier, and prevents freezing

Re: Trailer size for 1948 Farmall Cub
Just looking up some specs to bring home a new one now...
The Uhaul 5’x9’ with ramp is listed as 1660 lbs capacity with 3500 lbs hitch for $25/day.
The Uhaul 6’x12’ with gate is listed as 2670 lbs capacity with 5000 lbs hitch for $30/day.
The Uhaul 6’x12’ with ramp is listed as 2710 lbs capacity with 5000 lbs hitch for $35/day.
The car hauler has > 3000 lbs capacity for $55/day.
Yes, the ramp width is listed as 4’-9” for both sizes. The gate is the full width of the trailer.
Note that the smaller trailer really does not have sufficient weight capacity unless the Cub is absolutely bare, and also they adjust the weight capacity according to your hitch capacity in a way that might not seem straightforward.
Your pricing will probably vary. This was current for me here as of October 9, 2020.
I could not get an answer on the spacing of the pans on the car hauler. I’m not sure if it is possible to set up a Cub too narrow to fit on one?
No Sunbelt rental close enough to me to be worthwhile...

Re: Trailer size for 1948 Farmall Cub
I want to know what kind of car hauler only has 3000 pound capacity!!?? All of them are tandems and a minimum 3500 #axles. You can't tell me the trailer weighs 4000 pounds!! The only car you could even get on there would be a tiny econobox?? I sold a Buick LeSabre a few years ago and towed it. I'm thinking it was just 3500. I think my small Toyota first gen Highlander weighs around 4000. A full size truck of the age of my squarebody is around 5000 pounds and in no way overloads a standard car hauler. Mine is wood deck, steel, tandem axles and might weigh 1500.
But does look like there downgrading then cause they only weld a 5000 pound coupler on them or is that cause YOUR hitch only is rated to pull 5000?
