#$@! it, I'm getting another Cub...
OK, having taken the collective wisdom of all associated listmongers to heart, I've spent 6 months looking for a Super A, 100, 130, or 140 tractor to mount my IH-1000.
Aye, here's the rub...
- There are precious few around near Upstate NY!
- What few there are, are wicked expensive!
- If you need parts, be prepared to PAY!
So please don't be offended, but I'm going against the best advice and purchasing another Cub to run my IH-1000. The way I see it, I can get a Cub in a matter of weeks, I have plenty of spare parts around for it and I know how to fix it, and if I need parts, I can call my buddy Tom and have them overnight at a wicked reasonable price...
And yes, I promise to be really careful

Not looking to talk you out of another Cub, but have you tried the Mailbox Markets ads in Lancaster Farm news? Mike Sloane, a fellow on the ATIS Farmall forum is kind enough to post tractor related ads extracted from LFN weekly. Most advertisers are usually from PA, and sometimes NJ or MD, but typically no more than what I would think a 3 hour ride for you (perhaps I should check a map). Here are examples of Super A's from November and December 2005:
Hope this helps.

I just stopped by one of the local farmers the other day (the only one left??) and he said a guy in the next town over has a BUNCH of 140's that were owned by the state. Says he is selling em for $1000 each.
Haven't investigated yet.......

ATIS etc.
I subscribed to the ATIS "Lancaster Ads" for the last several months, but each one that's interesting seems to be 500+ miles away
Hey BW, if you find a passel of them, let me know and I'd be glad to make a road trip to RI

Super As and 140
Hey Allen,
Not to talk you out of the cub, but there is a guy down near Pittsburgh that has several Super As, 100, 130 and 140 for sale. I don't have the link with me on this computer, so I will e-mail it to you tomorrow. His prices were anywhere from $1000 to $5000 for this one 140 industrial with a nice Woods mower on it. I would definitely go for one of these tractors over the Cub just because everything is a little heavier built, and less chance of snapping a front spindle.
Later,
Bill

Looked at the 140's. Rough around the edges (and sides too). Two have 3 spindle mowers, but one is missing two of the spindles. And the price is not $1000.
But they are the heavy duty ones with square front tubes (and reinforcing struts) and all of em supposedly run great. Modified to no end, each one was different and had several coats of various color paint (top is sorta orange). Most of em have the TC arms removed and a hydraulic control block.
This guy has a bunch of C's and some much larger. Even a wierd diesel C from France that is possibly the only one in the US. Couldnt find the serial number plate, but the temp gauge is in French and it has the odd light and plate setup that Pat's have.
So I have another source of IH wisdom and I can get all 4 140's.... if I only had space to keep em and the cash to buy them.

140s and another source for tractors
BW, were you able to snap any photos of the tractors? I am really interested in finding a "industrial" styled tractor to restore. Please e-mail anything to me at gitractorman@hotmail.com. Maybe we can work out a deal if you want to pick up all of them, or several of them, to get a discount from the guy.
Allen,
Here is the link to Reesman's Farm Supply

This guy has a whole field full of old tractors and parts. I have been trying to plan a trip down there, just to check things out, but have not had a chance yet. Again, I would really like to find an industrial tractor to restore, and he has a few.

Thank you
Thank you for the link! At it turns out, it is 500 miles approximately, door to door... Probably beyond my range, unfortunately.
