I saw an IH wagon advertised facebook near my work. I did not like the price and the person was never available to show it. It was up for months. Last week I made an offer and she accepted it.
Well it got delivered today. I was under it greasing and oiling and I noticed hinges in the back. When I got back to the front I notice there was nothing holding the front to the frame. I got the loader and sure enough, it is a dump hay wagon! Was not advertised as such.
How are you suppose to dump it? - assuming get a loader is not in the owner's manual for the trailer.
Does anyone know the model? I can not make it out on the tag or in the photo.

Re: nice surprise IH tilt dump wagon
Looks like a "2" in the model space of the ID tag. The only one I know of with a 2 is the number 52. The 52 has that style frame, was built from '52 to '57.

That's a model 52 I posted above. I'm wondering if that lift mechanism is factory or add-on. It shouldn't be too difficult to add a lift cylinder I wouldn't think. Slide those hay/straw bales right off the back!
Here's a #52 with a barge box body. Looks like the same lift mechanism.

Re: nice surprise IH tilt dump wagon
The one with sides looks to be a steel bed frame on steel running gear. I have a wood bed frame and steel running gear. There is steel around the perimeter of the deck. It looks more like the first one. I will try some oil or on the tag to see if I can read it any better

Re: nice surprise IH tilt dump wagon
From what I remember, all the IH box bodies were steel and all the flats were wood.

Re: nice surprise IH tilt dump wagon
Wagons were often sold as only a running gear. The farmer may have made his rack or box. He may also have transferred from an older wagon or bought a rack from another manufacturer. Sometimes, wagons got changed over from one style to another as the farmer's needs changed. So don't let the rack confuse you on identifying a running gear.
The hoist pictured below the steel box looks a lot like an IH. But a lot of them look about like that. I think the IH hoist was made by somebody else. The one pictured under the flat rack looks the same. But it looks like it may have somebody else's logo on the side.
