Thumb screws

Postby Daniel H. » Thu Jan 26, 2006 4:17 pm

Has anyone found a source for new thumb screws like the ones used in the touch control stop clips. I can find some a the hardware store but they are not the "butterfly" style. Thanks.

I bought some yesterday at Ace but they are not the butterfly type like you mentioned $.60 each. You may have to Customize them yourself.

This is the closest that I have found. I have requested a price quote. The size needed is ST 1508.

Sure looks like the original!! The ones that show up with the repro. stops being made aren't even close. I see 'em on Ebay once in a while but you usually have to PAY to be able to get em!

Let us know what you find out. If you have to buy a large or quantity, maybe we could split them up or maybe Tom at TM tractor could carry them.

I'm interested, too. My tractor only came with one stop on it, and the screw is busted on that one. I'm assuming the other stop broke and was discarded at some point, or just discarded. Anyhow, as I'm sure you all have discovered in the past, I checked with Carter and Gruenwald for a new set of stops, thinking they'd be pretty cheap. Well, not exactly. $50 for 2 stops. My cub won't be having any stops until I find a used one and a new screw for my busted one.

Here's how some guy solved the problem... fabricate them. A washer making a close fit in a machine screw slot can be silver soldered in place and later cut and filed to shape. Not a good solution for those with more money than time, but one that works for us retired geezers.

All,

The hydraulic stop wing screws will be available at TM Tractor Parts in the near future. Take a look at Tom's web site under New Parts - Hydraulics.
