Update on my cub

Postby JLollis » Mon Jan 30, 2006 9:14 pm

It's been quite a while since I've posted, but I've been reading regularly. Back in September, I purchased a cub that once belonged to my grandfather. It hasn't run in years. I've tinkered with it with the help of someone who knows a lot more about it than me, but after the first of the year, my free time almost disappears (I'm a CPA). Anyway, I sent the cub to stay with the semi-retired friend who has been helping me. Things are moving much more quickly now. Since then, the head was removed to clean up the valves. While the head was off, it was discovered that the rings were bad. While the oil pan was off to change the rings, we changed the rod bearings. Last night, for the first time, I actually heard all four cylinders fire. Of course, it was with the assistance of starting fluid, but they did fire. Now, I think that if we can get the correct amount of gas in there it might actually run. I've got a carb kit coming from TM, so hopefully that will be straightened out soon, as well. This new kit is to replace the non-CaseIH kit I installed before I started reading this forum.

Anyway, I've used this forum, links from this forum, etc. extensively. I just want to thank you all so much for sharing all this information. With the help of this board, I may actually be using my old cub soon.

Here are a few pics I took before I really started working on it. The carb had been removed at this point for first rebuild. I'll try to get some new ones soon. If you think it looks bad in the pics, you should see it now with no grill and a sandblasted, primed hood.

The model is my 2-year old.

Sorry about the quality of the photos. I resized them, and I may have cut them down too much.

She is a daddy's girl. She loves tractors, too. When I still had the Cub at the house, she wanted to go outside to see "Daddy trakka." She got one of those Deere Power Wheels for Christmas. Unfortunately, there wasn't a Cub Power Wheel.

Hey "J"...Looks like you're well on your way to havin' your Cub ready to run in this year's 4th. of July Parade in your hometown! (I'm sure your daughter would LOVE that too!). :D

Last time I checked...my C.P.A. was makin' PLENTY of money doin' my taxes and others! Soooo...you'll probably have a nice "restoration piggy bank" after tax time is over! Get your Cub runnin' so you can ENJOY drivin' it with your "trakka buddy"
