Special tools for the manifold
Is there a special tool or socket for removal and replacement of the two inside manifold nuts. This one has me stumped.

I'm not quite sure what nuts you're referring to. Can you post a picture?

Re: Special tools for the manifold
I'm guessing these two (2) inner nuts.
With the carburetor and air intake tube gone, you have a bit more room to get a 12pt box end wrench in there. Make sure you soak the nuts good with penetrating oil.

Re: Special tools for the manifold
Ricky, there are 4 nuts that hold the intake/exhaust manifold on the block. The 2 to the inside are giving me fits tightening up.
Trays, I used up all of my patience tool getting the old one off. And all of my language tool.

Re: Special tools for the manifold
Peter, I did all of that. I think that the new casting is ever so slightly different or the rust flaking off of the old one gave me a little more room. I got the new one on but I’m not all that confident as to how tight they are. It doesn’t leak but there is still that doubt. I’m thinking about cutting down a thin wall socket and welding a nut on it. Or something like that.

Re: Special tools for the manifold
It's been a while since I installed a manifold, but I wonder if this type ratcheting open end wrench would work. (I know this example is metric! Just too lazy to find a different example!!)

If it won't fit in there, you might be able to grind the wall on the ratchet down to get it in. Just a thought! I'm sure someone will have a definitive answer! Good Luck...and go ahead and refill your patience tool!!

Re: Special tools for the manifold
I agree with Peter's suggestion of a 12 pt. combination wrench.

Re: Special tools for the manifold
Ricky, that is an alternative that is in the works. I will have to grind it to get it to fit. That’s an idea actually, a tool sacrifice to the Cub!

Some times we need to make sacrifices to get-r-done. Keep it in your tool box and you'll have if in case you ever need it again!

Re: Special tools for the manifold
I had to grind down a spare 13/16" open end wrench for the fan...painted it red...it's special!

Re: Special tools for the manifold
Looks like just about any standard 12 point box end wrench would fit mine (without any grinding), or maybe a universal socket (the kind with the built on universal joint)!

Re: Special tools for the manifold
Yeah I second the grinding of a wrench idea. I have a stash of end wrenches that I have hit with the belt sander to make them smaller for fitting into tight spots.

Re: Special tools for the manifold
A 9/16 wrench works fine, just need to remove the carburetor to get them good and tight.
