water inlet niple

Postby John(videodoc) » Fri Feb 10, 2006 8:12 pm

ok, the manual (engine removal) says remove water inlet nipple. with no picture reference. the illustrated parts break down, lists a outlet water connector. ????? :? :? :? :? :?

would this be a piece of threaded pipe that screws into the casting of the steering assembly? does that screw out??? :? :?

Doc
if you have a pipe expander
( the tool that you put inside a tail pipe to strech / or to round a pipe )
put it inside the water nipple before you try to remove the nipple or the pipe wrench will collaspe the pipe . :)

Pipe

Postby Charles (49) Mo » Fri Feb 10, 2006 9:00 pm

If you ruin the pipe you can go to any hardware store and get a replacement. Its standard 1 1/4" NPT. Just get one that is longer and cut off one threaded end to fit.

Expander

Postby allenlook » Fri Feb 10, 2006 9:02 pm

I don't have a pipe expander, but I wouldn't mind ruining the nipple if I could get it out. It is MARRIED to the steering housing... In fact, I have two housings, and BOTH are betrothed to their nipples. Uh, you know what I mean.

Heat and hammer

Postby Charles (49) Mo » Fri Feb 10, 2006 9:26 pm

Ours was a ^%^&(** to get out but a few cycles of torch heat followed by a water quench and the hammering action of an air chisel with a blunt tip did the job. Just a question of breaking the rust bond.
