I drove my Cub today

Postby JLollis » Sat Feb 11, 2006 10:15 pm

Charles called today, and he asked me if I wanted to come drive my tractor. For those of you who may not know, this tractor hasn't been driven in about 15 years. Of course I wanted to drive it.

The clutch is far from perfect, but with some adjusting, you can now get the tractor in gear while it's running. I figure it will last for at least a year with the light duty it will receive around here. We'll see. I just don't want to split the tractor unnecessarily.

Only one of the brakes work, but I can work on that after I get it home. Right now, I'm just glad that the tractor is operational. I'm going to pick up my belly mower and disk harrows tomorrow. I haven't seen the need to pick them up from the guy who sold me the tractor until now.

This is the first time I've driven a cub since I was a small child. I'm now 30. I don't know whether the cub that I drove then is the one that I now own. My grandfather had two cubs at one point, so it may have been the other one. Anyway, I'm just terribly excited to have Papa's tractor working again. That's what really makes this day special.

JLollis, sounds like you had a great day. Congratulations!
It's special when you can recover & restore a family tractor. We seem to regain some of the feelings and memories that were important to us and it freshens a link with the people & times these old tractors have seen.
Take care,

Wooohoooo!

A true Cub enthusiast will relive the joy and relief of his first ride every time the object of his affection sputters to life after a seemingly inexplicable failure followed by a head-scratching, knuckle-busting, while-you're-in-there, six-trips-to-the-hardware-store project. - Conflookcious :)

I'm sure it brings back a lot's of memories of not just the tractors you Grandfather had but other great times also. Congratulations!! I keep a lots of pictures of almost everything and have even scanned some my Dad has come up with. Try to document your adventure and Post us a few if you get time. You will never regret it!

Ron
I bought an old tractor all dusty and worn,
knew nothing about her just the year she was born
I washed her and greased her and painted her red
Now she lives happily right here in my shed.
