NOS Cub Tach on eBay

Postby Denny Clayton » Wed Feb 22, 2006 11:04 am

Don't know where this will stop, but at $325 currently, it is an interesting one to watch. Has been repainted yellow from factory red and doesn't include the bracket that bolts to the tractor. Also doesn't include the cable and the drive hardware for the distributor. It's going to take alot more to come up with a complete package.

It may be 49 years old and weathered, but my '57 has the complete original factory tach setup and it still works great. I guess I can appreciate that since I'm 10 years older and I'm a little weathered myself.

Cub Tach

Postby gitractorman » Wed Feb 22, 2006 11:19 am

This may be a silly question, but is there any chance that those are still available from Case/IH? I have not seen one personally, but I would guess that it is the same tach as used on many other tractors, except for the face plate with the gear/MPH ranges on it. I know that it was only an option on the Cub, but a tach was standard on almost all IH tractors after 1960.

Maybe Bermuda Ken knows or could check?

Just curious.

The tach is mine, so I hope it goes alot higher... The remaining parts to make the tach kit complete, are actually not that hard to come up with. Occasionally I have the drive gear assys that go in the distributor, and the cables can be made thru a speed shop.etc.. There is another short bracket that is missing, but I am sure it would be a simple one to make. This specific tach came from an Industrial dealer in NE that I bought out a year or so ago.. I picked up the bracket on ebay, thinking it was original, but I think it is a reproduction (as stated in the auction description), and the bracket band is the substitution part number for the orignal.... The cub tach is rare, but not as rare as the NOS 350 Diesel HI-Utility tach I have....

Reading this post made me wonder how many or how rare is the tach drive distributors? My Cub has the drive but no tach.

nosih,

Wow, you done good! I hope you are pleased. Maybe I should be parting out my '57, starting with the tach...then the emblems...then the fast-hitch...all those NOS (Nasty Original Stock) parts.

Just the other day I was working on my Loboy and I looked at the doglegs--with emblems--and thought, "Well, parting those out would allow me early retirement." Along with the "International Cub" emblems, the original/stock grille, original battery box, etc., etc.
That tractor must be worth....jeez, I couldn't even guess.
