Made a Rake!

Postby wwirz » Mon Apr 10, 2006 9:20 pm

I made a rock rake for my tractor over the weekend. I made it from 1/4" angle iron. I made the tines from 8" long pieces and spaced them 4" apart along anotther piece of angle iron 52" long. 52" is as long as the tractor blade. Once the rake was made I sandwiched in between the tractor blade and the bolt-on metal sacroficial piece of steel on the bottom of the blade. Ipull the rake with the blade mounted off of the rear of the tractor. I can lift it with the rear hydraulics with the rear lift mechanism.

It works great! I was able to rake to a depth of 3" no problem. Cleaned up many rocks in my new lawn. Didn't cost me anything excpt some time to make. It isn't pretty but it works.

Pictures to follow..

Wahoo...it can be done.

Bill

Thanks for the interest in the rake. I just purchased a digital camera so it may be a little for the pics. It is not pretty,,,but it works. The best part about it is that I made it from junk! Since a rake isn't used all the time it was a nothing ventured nothing gained proposition.

I'll get pictures out ASAP. Any tricks to posting them?

There are a couple of places to post em, we have our own Cub photo server (see the top of the post page) and Photobucket.com.

I would also recommend that you get the image resizer from microsoft.... FREE!! Makes the photos manageable size, very easy to use (right click). Rudi has the link near the bottom (power toys) of this page.

Made a 7' rake for my cub using a plate of steel 12" x 84" with holes drilled every 3" stagered in two rows. I use it to tear up the baseball fields here in town and works great. I used my one point slip scoop mounting to attatch the rake to and I tell you it works great. All I use is 4" bolts for the teeth that only costs about $20 to replace every year.

I'll post a picture for you to see. I don't have one yet.
