Generator and Starter 'insulation'

Postby Buzzard Wing » Thu Apr 20, 2006 11:10 pm

Both the starter and generator have a cover over the commutator (?) and my generator had duct tape under it. The starter has either rubber or leather (time took its toll on whatever it is) that should be replaced cause it disintegrated.

I suppose that duct tape will work for both, but I am thinking that a cut section or inner tube may be better.

Any wisdom about what to use??
Here is the generator with a home made cover and the starter ready for paint.

BW - buy a sheet of gasket material and cut a strip to fit.

I think the "correct" material is called fishpaper. Mcmaster-Carr has it, if you want to look at it on mcmaster.com. However, I don't see any reason gasket material wouldn't work, too.
