carburetor problem

Postby le-lou » Sat Jun 17, 2006 3:12 pm

First let me thank all of you for the help you gave me in
the pass. This site is first class. The problem today is
with the top section of the carburetor that is warped.
I can see day light between the two section. Is there a way
to straighten something like that? I just can't see how a little
tractor can run so good with so many things wrong
with the carburetor.

Here's how I do it:

Remove the throttle body. When removing the throttle body, be very careful to pull it off the bowl, straight. Any side to side movement may break the idle tube. Remove the float, and needle. Place a #12 flat washer at each screw hole. Place the throttle body back on the bowl with the washers sandwiched between the bowl and the throttle body. Use a fifth washer of the same size as a feeler gauged to show where the high spots are.

You can then apply judicial use of a nice piece of hickory and a pounding device  to the high spots, (usually the corners and the venturi area). Checking often with the fifth washer.

When putting the carb back together don't over thighten the screws as that's how it got warped in the first place.

Thanks Donny, sounds like a good plain, I wasn't sure that
the metal would bend. When I bought the cub the gasket
was broken and sticking out the warped side but it
started up and ran good, I can't imagine how good it
could ran with a repaired carburetor.

Guys:

Here is the link:

Lurker Carl's Carb Fixes and it is on the Cub Manual Server.
When in doubt just look for a post by me and the link to the server will be in the signature line... or you can look for the Welcome Wagon Spiel.. as all the links are in it, including the link to the Carb Fixes..

Not sure why a link via http://makeashorterlink.com/?J16342D9C is needed... seeing as the link is always there. But I guess this is another reason for maybe a fixed link to the Cub Manual Server may be needed.

Here it is again..

First, Image to the greatest forum on the internet, and to the Cub Family. You will find that all the folks on this forum are kind, helpful and just full of Cub info and knowledge. They also happen to be the finest folks I have ever met :!: :D

Ok, so here is the spiel Image:

I would suggest that you read this thread: New Members and Visitors, Please READ Prior to Posting. There are many great links to informative pages such as the ATIS FAQ's 1 and ATIS FAQ's 2, The Best of H.L. Chauvin who has written very interesting articles on troubleshooting common problems with your Cub.

Also, you might want to visit the Cub Manual Server as there is tons of info on servicing, maintaining and re-building your Cub. In addition to this basic information, there are also a number of other useful tools available on the server. There is the Specialty Services page which has contact info for neat stuff like getting your seats recovered, buying quality Decals, Serial Number tags and a host of other neat items. Also there are the Parts Pages - both Used Parts Suppliers and New Parts Suppliers pages with links to quality dealers. I am always looking for YOUR favourite dealers for New and Used Parts to include here. These are intended to complement the businesses who support FarmallCub.com Website.

I would also recommend that you visit Binder Books and purchase the three most important manuals you can own for Maintenance, Repair and Rebuilding your Cub. These are the Owner's Manual, the GSS-1411 Service Manual and the TC-37F Parts Manual. Although they are available on the Cub Manual Server, it is better is you also have your own paper copy. Binder Books is the only Authorized IH Publication Reprint House and they have the best quality manuals available. Most other's are not of the same quality. Just a personal thought here, the I&T Shop Manuals, although helpful in some areas, really are not sufficient for the job. If you wish though, they are good additional reference works.

IF you really want to get the skinny on all things Cub, might I suggest you get a copy of each of Ken Updikes books, the first being Farmall Cub and Cub Cadet's and the second book Original Farmall Cub and Cub Cadet. Along with Guy Fay's Letter Series Originality Guide, these are three must have's in anyone's collection.

In addition to the above information, don't forget to check out the various articles that are available to help with your Repair, Restore, Rebuild or just your Maintenance Projects. There are a number of sub pages such as Electrolysis or Rust Zapper's, Maintenance Tips, Jigs and Techniques, Implement and Part Sketches and of course the Paint, Decals & Other Finish Questions which has the Paint Chart and the Paint Committee Decisions links.

I truly hope that you enjoy your Cub and that you will be a frequent contributor to the forum. Again, Image to the Cub FamilyImage :D

Rudi,

When I tried to include a direct link to Carl's page, it didn't seem to work. That's why I used the Shorter Link route. Direct links from your site don't seem work in the chat room, either. Maybe it's just me.

Don:

The reason why the link doesn't work if you just copy it from the server is that darn apostrophe [']. The current build of phpBBS software does not support punctuation... as the older one did.

Now I have to rebuild the server to fix that problem or to insert %27 to replace the apostrophe's. That is why I use the Welcome Wagon Text for the link to Carl's thingy.

I had forgotten that the punctuation messes up the link.. so it makes some sense to use your link until I can get it fixed...
