Suffix codes
I saw a 1950 Cub at the Miami Valley Steam Threshers show in Plain City, Ohio today. It had two letters after the serial number J & L. What do these mean. The only option code list I found sshows the codes staring with an X. Does anybody know what these letters mean, and is there somewhere they are listed?

Yup:
J indicates that the Cub is equipped with a Rockford Clutch. Or at least it was when it left the factory. This allowed the IH Techs to differentiate between the Auburn and Rockford WITHOUT splitting the Cub.
As far as the L - indicates the High Altitude Cylinder Head
If you look in the TC-37F Revision 2 Index .. there is a page for Suffix Codes.
