Hello all. Not only do we see signs of warpage on the carbs, but I just noticed alot on the back sides of the rear seal housings. The housing on the left was just bored to accept the new seal for GaryS, and I noticed the housing wasn't setting real flat on the jig. Sure enough, I had to flatten things out. The housing on the right, I just touched the high spots to magnify the areas to proove my point. We're talking about .015 or more. I wonder how many oil leaks from these areas and are blamed on the seal instead. Here's another jig to make, Don McCombs or Lurker

Rick,
That treatment will show similar results when applied to the carb to manifold flange. I guess that many of our parts were over-tightened over the years. No big deal, but we should be aware.

The rear seal housing is probably easier to straighten than the carburetor - no idle tube and venturi and float protuberances to worry with. Still, that's a much heavier piece of metal to warp like that.
