Help Needed Identifying Carburetor for my Cub

Postby Tim Martin » Tue Jan 30, 2007 11:16 pm

I need a new carburetor for my Cub but am a little confussed about which one I need. I have a 57 LoBoy and the serial number is 4155J. Here is a picture of the carburetor that is on it right now. When I went to the local IH dealer they asked if the serial number was above or below a certain number. I guess there is different carbs for different years? I'm confused, please help. I guess I could take this one off and bring it straight to the parts department.

that is a Zenith carb. I t was sold as a replacement, and was used on the later models. I like them better than the Ih carbs. Not any more horsepower so far as I know, but they don't have the warpage problems.

Tim. You already have the replacement Zenith carb, judging from your stock(IH Carb) intake manifold. Here's a new one on TM's site for comparison. http://www.tmtractor.com/new/fl/2376fp.htm

Maybe some of the experts will pitch in and talk about a rebuild kit for the Zenith. That would be a whole lot cheaper than a new carb.

Every body wants to replace the carb. I can't understand why. Take it apart clean the passages and jets. I have never seen a cub carb that wouldn't fix. they are basic basic basic. The ones on my 36 ford and 36 chevey were mor complex though not by much. The one on my 1938 plymouth was more complex too.

Thanks, I will pick up a rebuild kit first. So I just ask for a rebuild kit for the replacement Zenith carb, right?

Tim:

You can find the needed information on TC-37F - Group 12 - Power - Page 14 and TC-37F - Group 12 - Power - Page 15 on the Cub Manual Server.

On Page 15 it says:
    395 320 R92 Package, Carburetor Repair - Includes Ref Nos 1,37,8, 14, 27, 28 and 41.

    368 357 R91 Package, Carburetor Gasket - Includes Ref Nos. 12, 19, 21, 32, and 36.
I would assume as I do not have a Zenith, that if it is just a simple Gasket job that the second package is all that is required. But if you are going to to a complete OverHaul, then I would order both. Crack the Carb and have a peek.
