Ugly?

Postby David D. smith » Sun Dec 21, 2003 7:05 am

I don't see any ugly cubs. Just some that need a lot of help.
I voted for #1. But I don't mean the one on the front of the trailer.
#3 looks like it went through a fire. What a shame.

I voted for #1 rear, too, but how about that "generator access door" on #6? What a hoot! However, in the category of "Ugliest Operational Cub," I vote for Scruffy, if he'll start this morning....

Even though one of the candidates is mine (non running), I think next time it should be limited to running cubs. Anyone can have a cub that looks like a pile of junk, to to have one that looks like a pile of junk and still runs takes skill.

 I voted for #6- A complete operational cub. I voted #2&6 in past, so I thought it would be someone elses turn.

I gotta get some pictures of a couple of mine. I think I have at least one serious contender in the barn. Maybe for the next contest???

can't hide 'ol scruffy'. those front tires give him away. still, that's a strong contender.
yet, #6, even though posed with his generator flap up, has got to get my vote. any tractor that looks like it's running with that perfect paint scheme has got to win :!:

I had to go with #5. It was one of the few that looked like it might run. #6 was under consideration, but that uniform patina is a reflection of simple benign neglect and weathering, not the result of years of abuse.

#5 has the apprearance of ball peen body work, mis-matched front tires and a Deluxe Seat with no cushion. Best of all is the voltage regulator that sems to be hanging from a thread. How can you not love it?

Somewhere around here, I have a picture of my '61, taken the day I first got it running. If I ever find that picture, you will get to see my contender in this category.

Boy! This is really sum'pin! Three and part of the fourth live here. Some of the Cubs I can identify and others I should but can't.

#1 was taken here. The front tractor is Sandy, my cultivating tractor. She's had a little work since the picture was taken. Here's a picture taken earlier this year.

Image

The lump on the rear of the trailer was the beginning of the tricycle. Close inspection will show that there is no front axle.

Image

I don't think #1 qualifies for this.

#2 is an original demonstrator that belongs to J.P.Hargis.

#3 belongs to John *.?-!.* cub owner. It was the donor for the non-adjustable axle that I recently showed in a post in a thread about loosening frozen front axles.

#4 or #6 is (I think) Russ Leggitt's. I know I've seen both but can't be sure.

#5 is a stranger to me.

#7 is good ole Scruffy Here's his latest picture. problem is...the front tires don't match now.

Well, I was up till very late last night, or very early this morning when I saw this thread begin. I chose #3, mostly cause it is pretty forlorn and missing so much. You can tell it is a Cub, but just barely with all the missing parts and such. The only other Cub that is as ugly as that one on the page is the 1/2 Cub on George's trailer.

Most of them are in much better shape than Jethro, and I think he would be a good candidate for ugly.

Jim does have a point though, we probably should do a poll on the ugliest running Cub, be interesting to see who qualifies.

Rudi, nice cub. Particularly the whitewall tire, which adds a certain degree of elegant decadence to it

The trouble with including non-running tractors is in trying to draw the line between an ugly tractor and a pile of parts.

I do like the way Jethro's drawbar is chained up (back flip special). But the seat looks a mite uncomfortable.

Rules? You want rules?

OK, on a discussion regarding ugly Cubs a few months ago, these photos were submitted to me as meeting the qualifications of "ugly". Now I'm letting you, the members decide.

If you want a "running, but UGLY" Cub contest, send me a recent photo of your Cub.

The Rules:

1. Must be a new or recent picture (within the last month, i.e. 11/03-12/03)
2. AS IS, not a BEFORE picture.
3. Must be a running, working Cub.
4. Must be submitted to me before 1/15/04
5. Must be your Cub. (Do not submit some elses Cub picture.)
6. Previous candidates above are eligible, with the exception of the winner.
7. Cub and Lo-Boys are eligible.

If there is enough interest, I'd like to do a Cadet contest too. So Cadet owners send me your pictures too!

All contestants and winners will be posted in the Gallery of "Don't hate me because I'm beautiful" photo album on the web site. Also, I will make an "Ugly, but beautiful" Screen saver to be available for download from the web site.

Send them to cub@farmallcub.com and be sure to include your name and message board ID so I can keep them organized.

In the meantime, have fun with this one :!:
