Just my opinion

Maybe I'm out of line here. If so you can delete this faster than I can post it.
Advertising Policy:
Advertising will always be "Farming/Tractor" related. Advertising space sold on this website is to provide additional funding to the website so that it can continue to provide a place for all Cub owners to gather and share information about these wonderful tractors.

Advertising rates run from $12.00 to as low as $6.00 per month. Send your inquiries to cub@farmallcub.com

I think anythig done on this site for profit should give the 6 to 12 dollars per month to the Web Master

Right on target Jim. I agree. Chat and profit making ventures should be separate.

Chat and profit making ventures should be separate.

That may be true, but it might require the wisdom of Solomon to make the separation. Sometimes some of us make otherwise unobtainable or prohibitively expensive items available for our friends without regard for profit. Without chatting about them, you won't even know about them. Don't you agree?

Do you seriously think the $50 hydraulic blocks are a profit making venture? Really?

Actually I agree too. I looked all over this site to see if there was a rule against avertizing on the forum and I couldn't find it. Plus I thought I was providing members with something they needed. I gave a lenghty explanation to what my position was on one of the other posts. I'll summerize here. I'm not making on red cent on these blocks!!!. I out sourced them with someone I know who has the time and ability to make this item on a very professional level. As time goes on you come to realize what a valueable recource this man is. He can make just about anything and it will look as good or better than new. Butt it comes at a cost. Last I checked nobody was selling him propane, steel, aluminum, cutters, ect. for free. Therefore I must pass this cost on to those who wish to purchase my products. I repeat, I am not making any money on this forum, only providing what you ask for. You asked I delivered. I agree chatting about what you can make is good for all. Lots of parts need to be reproduced. I had rather buy from the folks on this board than China. But commerce where there is any money made or not is commercial traffic. As the policy on the home page says.

Web space cost money. So who should pay for it??
I want comment on this anymore.

I think this is a sensitive subject and I for one am glad for Wkpoor's post and plan to purchase a block or two. I am in agreement with both Jim and George. At $50.00 per block I do not think that there's much profit in it. Knowing a little about the cost of machine work I would think $50 bucks is close to break even. I think in this case it's a very fine line between advertising and providing wanted parts to the board.

Maybe this can be best resolved by reading the Home Page under:

Privacy, Policies, & Mission Statements

"Advertising/Spamming in the message board is prohibited.
Use the free classified ad section to sell your goods and services or request needed items."

While I very much appreciate the availabilty of such a part at a fair and resonable price, rules are rules lest this board become something we all wouldn't like.

Touchy subject

The comment by George Willer got me to thinking. What if I were to list parts for sale in the classified section without telling anyone. And someone else noticed the listings and told this forum about them. Then there would be threads dedicated to the subject of these parts for sale. Wouldn't that be the same as what already has occurred? I realize its a gray area butt I'll do whatever is right.

"WK", I wouldn`t worry about it. Just continue serving your fellow Cubbers that need & wish to obtain the service that you are providing for Us/Them. I have bought items talked about from members here on the board with no problems.

My 2-cents worth.

Thats nothing for the three years of enjoyment that i have gotton from this board, and i'm not buying a block  "Jack"

Personally, I feel if business is solicited, then advertising should apply. But when someone is responding to the request of others, that would not be offered otherwise, then let it be. In the latter case, it is not a commercial venture, but friends helping friends.......Bill V.

I hate to see this subject digress to an emotional state. The solution is easy. I applaud WK for being able to provide a part wanted by a number of board members. That some have brought up the subject of commercialism is not meant to slight WK, but rather to head off a full onslaught of commercialism.

If I had something needed by another board member I would say so on the forum and ask that details be worked out via personal Email. That way board dictates would be met and individuals could discuss cost, number of parts, etc., to their hearts content. Ionly jump back into this discussion because I would hate to see happen to this board what has happened to others.

I have the ability of making my own parts so I don't have a dog in this hunt other than what I have already said. Like Jim, I won't mention this again.

Last words. We haven't heard from the board bosses. I believe we will when they figure we have all vented our spleens.

Merry Christmas all

As has been stated by others, I don't have anything in this discussion. I believe that if things get out of hand and the board starts to look like an internet commercial, either Dennis or one of the board moderators (myself included) will pull the plug.
As it stands in my eyes, a need was expressed, a solution was offered.

I agree with BD. If it gets out of hand Team Cub will ensure it gets back on track. I really don't think it is out of hand yet, and is just chit chat between friends expressing and fulfilling a particular need. All the members on this board to date have shown a remarkable ability to stay on track and not stray from the rules, and I believe that is not about to change.

As BD aptly stated - expressed, fulfilled - subject closed :D

You got that right Rudi, Being a moderater on this board is almost equivalent to being a Maytag Repairman.

OK, so now maybe I feel a little guilty about a previous comment I made regarding someone trying to make a buck. Well, first of all there's nothing wrong with that. Second, I didn't mean to give the wrong impression.

While WK may not be making a buck, his machinist friend is certainly not doing it for free - and I wouldn't expect him to.

I know well what is involved in manufacture of machine parts. For those of you who don't know, the going rate for machine-time per hour is anywhere from $55-$90 per hour. If this guy can machine these blocks and sell them to interested parties for $50, trust me he's not getting rich.

I have it on good authority that same part could be made in Lithuania for about $0.78 each, if you want 10,000 of them or more. That's why manufacturing jobs are disappearing from the USA faster than ever.
