Farmall Cub

I just completed my 49 recently after 9 months working on it..replacing seals and gaskets, brake drums, clutch,pressure plate, t/o bearing,both slider gears in transmission, a cracked final drive casting,radiator, all 4 tires, this is the result..Just wanted to show off a bit...thanks to the board for lots of help, didn't ask many questions but learned a lot from reading others. I probably have 100+ hours on this project and enjoyed them all. Happy New year...Gary L.

Great job on the cub Gary. I, too, just completed my '49 and, like many others on this board, know how much hard work went into it. Now that this one is finished, when will you start on the next one

Gary - Super job! When my retirement becomes official next year I hope to spend more time in the shop. I got enough projects lined up to keep me busy for a while.

I don't know if its just my imagination or not but your shift lever looks somewhat taller than on any I have had. Anyone else notice?

That's the optional lazy man power shift unit.

I noticed, but only because I usually make them longer when I repair them. I checked back to the "before " picture to see if it came that way, but it doesn't show. Gary will be able to tell you how much better they shift with a longer lever. I'm thinking about extending the one on my '63 with deluxe seat to see how it works with the bent lever. I have my seat moved back so I'm sure it will work OK.

I usually lengthen them 2", but I think Gary's is longer yet.

I nearly forgot to say how great I think the tractor looks. Well done, Gary!

Fantastic!!! Great looking Cub. In response to the shifter, I recently lenghthened mine to what looks about the same for clearance around a control valve and what a difference it makes shifting. It's much smoother and easier now. Bill

Many thanks for all the kind words, first, I'm located in St. Thomas, Pa. near Chambersburg (franklin county).I will use the cub for plowing snow and maybe use the sickle bar mower some, by the way Rudi, I'm a ham too (N3CXC)..been very inactive the last few years though..the shifter is the one that it came with, it is easy to shift.The measurement from the spring washer to the top of the knob is 13 1/2" the lever is 1" away from the seat in 3rd gear with the seat forward..to cub-bud, already keeping my eyes peeled for another one but might stretch that one out longer..
