I posted a question(I Need Advice thread) http://farmallcub.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=2593 on how to remove a bolt I had broken on Ellie-Mae. It is the front bolt on the neck flange that connects to the head for the coolant system.

George Willer provided us with an explanation which made a lot of sense and I felt I could even work from that.

George went a step further and documented the procedure that he described in the post. He then sent it to me in a beautifully done word document. Kinda big, so we redid the format and converted to html.

If you go to the Manual server (click the link in the sig line - and yup I am working on a new format for the sig line) then click on Maintenance Tips and Techniques, then Removing Broken and Stuck Head Bolts, you will see what I mean. This is exactly the kind of thing that we need in this section. I am hoping that our Cub friends who have the knowledge and a digital camera and are willing to document their repairs/maintenance routines/jigs and aids while working on their Cub and provide us with some more tips/techniques such as this.

I am hoping for some of the most requested fixes such as carb rebuilds, generator rebuilds, mag timing, points/condenser replacement, governor rebuilds etc. as a possible start. Anyone interested please let me know via the forum or a PM or email.

Rudi, That will make it real handy for folks like me with the short memory. I will be glad when you install that last chapter, Ya know that one where I can pull that Cub mechanic out of the screen and let him do all the repairs on me Cub for me in this cold wet weather. I will take over that enjoyment this spring. :lol:

Some day I'll have a shop that's organized as your's. For now I'll have to rely on Steven (5 yrs old) to tell me where I left the screw driver.

I can't claim to be quite as organized as George but close.

All my tools are in one of two places... somewhere in the house or somewhere in the garage! :lol: :lol:

:twisted: Hey guy, Your tools are organized in the same places as mine. I can always find the tool I need though even if it takes an hour or two. :lol: If I cant find it by then I go buy a new one and then trip over the old one when I get home.

Geeze, I wish George was my neighbor. :P

Great work George & Rudi. To me pictures make all the difference in the world. I read the post on how to drill out the bolt but really couldn't visualise it. With the picture I can get it through this ancent brain in less than an hour.(usually) Keep up the good work.

I uploaded another one of George's awesome tips! This is the Front Alignment Tip.

I am working on Dave Smith's submission today. Hopefully it will be ready and up tonight.

A little aside, now that we have the full GSS-5035 Service Manual Magnetos, the link and the files on Magneto Servicing will be removed. It was incomplete.

More tips please!

I just uploaded Dave Smith's article on Replacing the Magneto Seal. Hope it is enjoyable to read. I found it informative considering how many times I have had Ellie-Mae's Mag apart :!: :roll: :lol:

Ok all:

I have two requests:

Would it be possible to get two volunteers who have digital cameras to do an article - one each on the following -

1. Would it be possible for you to document with words and pics on how to properly do a compression check on the cub c-60? I haven't got a clue, not sure what type of instrument to buy and I am sure that I am not alone..

2. Would it be possible to document with words and pics on how to properly time a Cub J-4 Magneto?

Responses please! I will do all the formatting etc., that is required. A simple text file accompanied by jpegs (of course numbered/named etc., with indicators where to place them in the document) is all that is required.
