Farmall Cub

Today we finsished the 49'Cub. SN 59646. It looks pretty good I think. We just have to blast and paint the wheel weights and add the battery box. It was pretty rough when I found it. Like new now. Not bad for 300 bucks.

They will"ticket" you for the rims, seat, radiator cap, & air intake cap and pipe

Thanks folks!! I know it's not perfect but, we have the right air filter tube, but I kinda thought the black hose looked good, I have to get a radiator cap yet, and an original seat. But I am layed off for winter, and I'll add head lights and maybe a new seat in the spring before show time. I kinda like the seat with a back though. more comfort!!

I think the little CUB looks g-r-e-a-t!!!

My thought about the "Correct Police" is: when they start paying for the
restoration/reburbishing then they can tell me how to do it. You know,
I overheard a Correctness Expert talking about how incorrect a little
tractor was and then someone asked him about his paint job. He went
on and on about how he would not use anything but "X" brand of paint
and how much better than the "original" paint was. What kind of a fool?

As far as the correct police ( the real ones) they could care less about how you restore a tractor. A true member of the correct police would never tell you what isn't original etc... BUT don't make a dumb comment like "I restored this to Original" if it isn't. That is when you will get ticketed. I have seen more guys tell you it was restored to original when it has a base coat/clear coat paint job, a stanley muffler, steiner battery box......... There are a lot of "Correct Police" imposters out there. and most of them don't have a clue.. You wouldn't believe how many people told me off and scolded me about my Super Cub. They kept accusing me off faking the tractor etc...
The Cub changed so much, so fast, so many times know one knows what is truly right or wrong especially between model changes.
I have only done one tractor to specs and that still has a couple of things wrong ( no paint on wiring harness, tires wrong etc...) The only correct tractor I have is original even the wear on it.

and I like the seat, looks comfy.

I wouldn't change a thing - it's a great job. I have a high back padded boat seat on my '48 and it's wonderfull for long mowing time. I think of it as a custom modification.

I think each restoration should have something of the restorer in it. The "Correct Police" would have all restorations to factory issue - What fun would that be? Then all the cubs would look the same. Nothing wrong with a little style.

We have a pretty screwed up idea of what restored is in the "American Tractor Family".
The Europeans have 3 catagories for tractors:
1) Restored (for show only) Frame up restorations, better than factory.
2) Rally (for parades, shows and rallys) What we usually call restored.
3) Working tractors

I think this is a great way to go about it because every tractor has it's place.
They also rank restoratons on a scale. Which is great when buying a tractor, especially from a distance.
What most Americans call restored could be what is rated anywhere from a #2 to a #10.
I have wasted a lot of time going to look at "restored" tractors.
The thing is they have a nice tractor but it sure isn't restored for the price they are asking. They just don't know how it should be if it is truly restored. I would much rather buy a plain old tractor than one somebody "restored". Just check out what guys on ebay call restored.
I would hate to get like the car guys but at least they use a scale.
We should really use a different term then "restored" because 99% of us, including me, just fix our tractors up and make them look nice and customize them for our own use.
Maybe we should look up the word "restored" in Websters. LOL

Funny you should mention this when another of the OFFICIAL Correct Police just did exactly that. According to dictionary.com:

I think the word "restored" gets pretty badly overused around tractors. "Fixed up" or simply "repainted" would be more accurate most of the time.

Unfortunately, a lot of what has been called "restored" is simply messed up.

You wouldn't believe how many people told me off and scolded me about my Super Cub.
